Yes, BEST... Thats the key word, theres quite a distinguished difference between "best" and "greatest".
And I do agree that the best are the most obscure, and I personally think theres better than Batio. To me, some of the best players aside from Jazz guitarists are in prog... Steve Howe, Robert Fripp, Steve Hackett, Andy Latimer, Adrian Belew, Steve Hillage, Mick Box, etc. |

When it comes down to it, I think 2 guitarists will always fight it out for the best ever: Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. To me it isn't just about technical guitar playing that makes a guitarist great, it's also about innovation. And no one can deny that music was the same after each of these men.
I would like to bring up three more guitar players who should be considered right up there with the best that no one has mentioned. Buckethead. For those of you who have never heard Buckethead, listen to any of his solo work (forget GNR) and tell me he isn't one of the best that's ever lived. George Harrison. The most underrated guitar player ever. Overshadowed by Lennon and McCartney, Harrison still wrote "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Something", two of the best Beatles songs. Adam Jones. If Adam Jones wasn't in the same band as Maynard James Keenan, he would be the star of the band. Adam can play anything, from super heavy to melodic and not miss a beat.

I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that. |
