Styles change. We call classic rock what was cutting edge heavy metal back in the day.

A more recent change is the term Emo. It used to be Heroin, Antioch Arrow, etc. Now it's applied to Taking Back Sunday

Your statement is an opinion, not fact. Sabbath is heavy metal.

Everybody referred to them as "Heavy Metal" back then.

Nobody referred to them as "doom rock"--that's a term that was invented years later.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame--"Formed in Birmingham, England in 1968, Black Sabbath stands as the premier purveyors of heavy metal."

All Music Guide--"Black Sabbath has been so influential in the development of heavy metal rock music as to be a defining force in the style."

Rolling Stone--"Their phenomenal first four albums -- Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, and Vol. 4 -- remain the clearest articulations of heavy metal vocabulary to date."

BlackSabbath.com--"Black Sabbath have taken the Grammy for Best Metal Performance for their rendition of "Iron Man" from the platinum-certified Reunion album."

Since my statement is opinion, what makes yours fact? Quoting a few sites and magazines? I wouldn't trust magazines at all. Oh and the green day says they're punk rock, we gonna believe that too? Give me some actual solid facts (meaning stuff that deals with there sound) and i'll believe you.

Sorry, but you drew first blood by taking exception to something I said, that wasn't even addressed to you.

So the burden of proof lies on you.

I've provided expert testimony from several of the most highly regarded music sites on the web, while you've given us nothing but an unsupported opinion.

And what Green Day thinks they are or aren't, has absolutely nothing to do with Black Sabbath. You're comparing apples and oranges, so your reasoning is flawed.

AAHAHAHHAHA Rolling Stone? Trusted? I wouldn't trust those idiots with a penny. Not only are they inaccurate half the time, they pick the worst picks for certain things and i'd like to see you actually prove sabbath is heavy metal, a bunch of sites wont do it for me. Prove it.

I agree. Many people find hard to tell the difference between facts and opinions.
I'll first check out the first source to go too, this thread.
Here is Doom Metal:
Quote:
Doom Metal

Very melancholy sound that stresses tragedy and depression. Characterized by Black/Death vocals and slow, trudging guitar riffs. Several offshoot styles have arisen from Doom’s slowly grinding footsteps including Sludge Doom, Drone, and Funeral Doom. All of these follow the same basic blueprint, having relatively repetitive slow riffs and vocals stressing the negative of love, life, and the hereafter.
I am staying neutral at the moment. Anyone else should refer to this though at least if you dont have any evidence of your own.

We've been saying doom rock, not doom metal.

Well I didn't say they were but I put that there since this seems to be a likley candidate if they were to be Metal. Though that would actually be my opnion there!( at myself). I am looking through the thread starter and that if Black Sabbath would be Metal, then they would be Doom Metal.

You conveniently overlooked my other sources--All Music Guide, the Rock Hall of Fame, Wikipedia and the Grammy Music Awards. And the Rock Hall of Fame, Grammy Awards and Wikipedia are NOT magazines.

Sorry, but your "appeal to ridicule" and attempt to "poison the well", are logical fallacies. You are trying to divert our attention away from the hard fact that you have no intelligent argument, or credible sources to support your opinion.

And as I stated previously, the burden of proof is clearly on YOU.
