Continuing my opinion that Doom Metal would better describe Black Sabbath than the General term "Heavy Metal". I compared Doom Metal vs. Doom Rock. Black Sabbath Doom Metal-858,000 results Black Sabbath Doom rock-908,000 results But like you said, take this with a grain of salt. |

I personally think it's wrong to modify a bands genre to fit the times.
It's playing around with history. A band may fit the term 'rock' more so then 'metal' these days, but don't take anything away from what it was at the time. Pretend in 20years time todays emo became known as pure pop. And your kids are running around getting into all this "early" pop which was once emo. You wouldn't have a bar of it would you? You'd stand upright and argue that it is some of the original early emo. And then you'd proceed to ram Britney down their throats telling them that thats true early pop. Point being, if when the music first came out it was one genre, it doesn't mean it changes over time into another genre. At least say it was the earliest form of such and such genre, giving it some honesty to what it once was.

i agree totally with merkaba two or three posts up Black SAbbath for there time were really heavy and doom metal or doom rock did not exist they may exist now and back catergorising SAbbath may work that way but why back catergorise they were metal then if it wasnt for them so many bands would never have started and been the metal bands as we know. In 30 years time slayer might be considered soft rock does that mean that there not metal now??
The actual term "heavy metal" was from a quote made by some reviewer of a gig by led zepplen, so if you wanted to really split hairs they would be the premier metal band, personally i dont want that to be true but such is life Theres been some debate in my circle about genres, now pretending that metal isnt just metal could someone please define the following DAmaged especially the albums: do not spit and token remedies research what is this? its not grind its not death metal, but its really heavy and really fast and exceptionatly brutal the drummer is debatedly one of the best. Fantomas they are heavy (****ing heavy live) they have one of the most influnential metal drummers but they arnt considered metal so what are they?? |

In my mind if it sounds like metal it IS metal.
I have more important things to do that invent pointless sub genres.

Goregrind?
Someone made that up and is now laughing his head off at people taking it seriously, right? For the love of Satan, seeing as this is metal after all, what is to possibly be gained by over-defining EVERYTHING? Oh, and Sabbath are metal. Anyone who spent the 70's wearing a leather and headbanging will tell you that.

i dont think honestly that metal has been over defined, bands need to use different ideas in order to stand out from others!
i dont even pretend to know the difference between gore metal and goregrind, but i can see that to people that are more into that type of music there must be! for instace, i like pagan black metal, celtic black metal, black metal. viking black metal. symphonic black metal. to people that dont listen too a lot of black metal that may seem like over classification, but too me i know that if i buy a pagan black metal Cd ill be getting summat different than if i buy a celtic black metal cd or a symphonic black metal Cd
