Mushroomhead: The other day I took my dog out for a walk. I was out there for about an hour, she wouldn't go! To pass up the time I wanted to listen to some "heavy" music that fitted my mood at the time. I remember a friend of mine who was really into Mushroomhead and let me borrow a CD of his. I put it on my ipod and never really thought of listening to them until I was scrolling through my artists. Foolishly I selected them. This music made me more angry. These guys are no different then Slipknot. Once again the vocal's absolutley suck. Like Corey Taylor it sounds like the vocalist has a hemroid the size of a football lodged in his ass and he's screaming through the pain making incoherent vocals. The music is very simple, looking up the tabs later I wanted to humor myself and found that it was painstakingly easy to play. Music doesn't necessarily have to be complex to enjoy it, but when my friend is saying that these guys "are very talented, you should listen to them." I'm going to check them out. Once again just like Slipknot the music really isn't challenging, there lyrics suck and what's up with the lame ass masks? I honestly think that these kind of bands are meant to attract 10-15 year old kids. They think "hey look at these guys in masks that's scary! And they swear a lot! This is badass!"

Anyhow for the people who dislike The Beatles, I want to see if your reasons run parallel with mine.

Way back in the day when I was a fresh faced 14-year old my dad got that Beatles 1 CD and told me that I should listen to it because he thought I would really like it. Now my dad had already been right about Pink Floyd and Tool so I listened to it and it just didn't click with me. I didn't like the songs, the lyrics, the instrumentation, or the production. Fair enough thought my dad, at least I gave it a try. Well fast forward a few months to when I discovered my first Internet forum (Taborama) and there was a Beatles thread. I posted my findings in a professional and respectful manner as to not offend anyone and was met by either waves of criticism or people telling me to listen to their own special mixes, many of which contained the songs I had already tried and didn't like. Before then I just didn't like The Beatles, but after being told that I had misinterpreted my own opinion, a mere dislike turned into full on hatred. So in conclusion, fuck The Beatles.
I used to get the same responses when I criticized the Rolling Stones.

On one hand, that doesn't really make a lot of sense. Allowing random people to further your dislike of The Beatles like that.

On the other hand, i've been there myself. It shouldn't have any effect on you at all but often it does. If i listen to a band and I don't like them then thats MY opinion. Maybe they have a vast back catalogue and fans of the band want me to sample different songs, albums, era's of that band...thats fine. People telling me i'm wrong is not.

And that's all I've ever experienced in the 8 years since I first listened to that album, so that frustration with being told I'm wrong (both in real life and on music forums) as accumulated. I think a lot of that hatred is just out of spite, which I suppose is kind of childish, but so is letting one persons negative opinion on a band that is almost unanimously praised as the second coming of Jesus.

All I ask of people is that they respect The Beatles and understand what kind of impact they had on music.

If they didn't do it, wouldn't somebody else have?

That's a dumb argument because
  1. No. Not nessicarily.
  2. If they did, it would have taken longer and we probably wouldn't have it now or have a more primitive version still developing.

Not everything is inevitable.

I've said this before, but it's worth repeating. The Beatles are so legendary because it is probably the one time in music history that the most talented band (subjective, I know, but most people will agree...I can admit a band has talent even if I don't like them) was also the most popular. That never happens.

It wasn't really an argument but yeah, I guess you're right.
