Right, so let's not listen to the music and form our own opinion. Call it a guilty pleasure, but their self-titled album is really good IMO. They did a great job finding a sound that works for them and they rock it out. They even play with some new elements on the album that work really well for them.

I don't put too much stock in image. I could give a **** less what the guys look like, but their music gets me moving, and that's all that matters.

So true...I have been a "maggot" since the first time I heard Slipknot way back in highschool...and I really have to say that they are an acquired taste(like most heavy metal bands out there)...It's all about taste in music, you can't blame others if they don't like it and vice versa...

Personally I don`t know why Slipknot are being dumped in with Nickelback!!! Despite not being a classic metal band, they still have some good albums and are a decent metal band! I actually own both the debut and Iowa albums as well.

Again, it's people who aren't listening to the music. They are simply looking at the bands image, and the image of the fans and saying, "I don't want to be a part of that." Which is shallow in my opinion, but I'm not here to tell people how to live.

Bottom line, Slipknot gets a bad rep becasue they look like this:

Maybe if they looked more like this, they would get more attention on this forum:

The reason I went with this title is I just went with the 2 bands mentioned the most often in this thread.
That's all

Interesting conspiracy theory though.

Conspiracy theory? Not really. Just an observation about music elitists, some of whom share this forum with us. I'm merely saying that some people make decisions on whether or not they like a band based on things other than the music. I wasn't pointing you, or anyone else out for that matter. But if you wan't to step up and take offense to a remark that wasn't aimed at you, I guess there's nothing stopping you.

I didn't think you were pointing at me, I was just saying why the thread is so named.

Your point about music elitists is an interesting one because it was precisely that reason why I changed the thread title, to get a bit of variety from people mentioning Slipknot & Nickelback all the time.

Well, there's your answer.

They're not being slagged off though.

Putting an image of Morrissey up there is an OTT contrast, we`re talking metal here and not flower power hippies

Any band that is marketed like Slipknot with their image, is going to get a bad rap amongst people, who see the marketing without really listening to the music.

Theatrics have always been part of rock and the likes of Alice Cooper and The Tubes probably did it best IMO. More recently Marilyn Manson brought it back to the forefront, and Slipknot are just carrying on that tradition and with a decent metal sound. A sound that is a damn sight better than anything put out by Nickelback, Creed, Saliva, Staind and Linkin Park etc along with all the metalcore crap out there.
