any thoughts on the black keys?

well...spill it goddamnit!!

TheBig3 04-28-2005 08:24 PM

there not bad, but theres something about their songs (the few I've heard) that have a superflous element too them. Theres too much, they need to cut some things out. And the guys voice bothers me but I don't know why. Good guitar though.

hookers with machineguns 04-28-2005 08:52 PM

They're from my home town. But regardless, they OWN. Thickfreakness= worth getting.

dog 04-29-2005 04:13 AM

yea theyre fun, i saw em on a music video show a couple times, and on the late show. pretty cool.

adidasss 05-01-2005 09:15 AM

what r you talking about, his voice is the best thing about them....they're very bluesy aren't they...but i fear there's just too many bands like this that will never make it big...and you never hear of them...i heard of them by accident ( i heard it in a bar ( in a village on an island in the adriatic..go figure ) whosebar owner is a real rock fanatic...has like 200 cds or more...he could've built himself a house with all that money

Wyldchild 05-01-2005 09:24 AM

They help the white ones on a piano.lol
Sorry couldn't resist lol.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 05-01-2005 09:24 AM

Ok, Ive heard nothing of them, any reccomendations?

Sneer 05-01-2005 09:29 AM

i always get the bastards muddled up with the black velvets. who are incidentally the biggest jet rip-offs known to the common man.

TheBig3 05-01-2005 09:38 AM

You don't think Jet rips both of those bands? The begining of "Are you gunna be my girl" is a direct rip from the doors.

And please, AC/DC is just all over their face.

Sneer 05-01-2005 09:58 AM

the only reason i can think of why your saying ac/dc is them being of the same nationality. i havent noticed the similiarity with the doors intro but i'll check it out.

try downloading 10am automatic...and play it loud will ya!!

TheBig3 05-10-2005 05:10 AM

The Opening to Cold Hard Bitch is basically the same intro off something from High VOltage maybe? I don't know for sure ill get back to you.

But Are you gunna be my girl, that guitar is the drums from "LUst for life" and the organ from "touch my baby" or whatever that songs called, im not sure cause I hate it. But its all there, frankly im suprised you didn't make the ACDC connection.

adidasss 05-10-2005 03:43 PM

DAMN!!THIS IS THE BEST BLUES ROCK I'VE HEARD!!i looooove the rugged sound....all three albums are f*uckin' greatt!!!( sorry about being repetitive and dragin' this sh*it out again but i've been downloading their stuff gradualy...man, the guy's voice sounds so black! like muddy waters or chuck berry or som shiiit...)

It started, and Hatemongers statement was my original point. Thank you Adidass, Ill be waiting for your eventual "this thread is still going, please shut it down" post.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-10-2005 04:40 PM

Ok i`ll get it back on topic

Cream tribute band

There , sorted

dantana 12-04-2005 07:55 PM

The Black Keys

Anybody heard these guys? I got the album "The Big Come Up" awhile back and it hasn't left the stereo.

They're like the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with more blues, less explosion, and an equal level of ass-kicking.

Download the song "Heavy Soul", at least.

Spikey 12-05-2005 12:24 AM

Yeah I have a DVD of them, they're great. Real blues sound. Two players, two guys, drums and guitar. They have a Jimi Hendrix sound on the guitar playing. The drummers a bit crazy:) They aren't mainsteam but I really like them:D
Oh really good live..

hookers with machineguns 12-05-2005 11:09 AM

The black keys will kick your ass and then some.

Thickfreakness
Rubber Factory
Big Come Up: ...???... probably

Jacinda 12-05-2005 11:42 AM

the suck live

iRock 12-08-2005 10:39 AM

^
THE suck live? ...

ok, anyways this is my favorite blues band, keeping in mind i dont know many blues bands. they make a lot of noise for two guys. Rubber Factory is one of my top albums that im listening to right now. i didnt hear to many good things about them live though... like Jacinda up there.

cardboard adolescent 06-02-2006 06:07 PM

I got Chulahoma and LOVE IT.

I'm not sure if I'll be dissapointed by their other albums. Opinions?

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-02-2006 06:10 PM

I`ve not heard it but I can`t imagine it`ll be that different to all the others.

The other 3 are very much worth listening to on their own merits but if you like one of theirs already go for it.

cardboard adolescent 06-02-2006 06:16 PM

Well, it's a bunch of covers of Junior Kimbrough, and from what I understand it's a lot more psychadelia-influenced than their other albums.

In any case, if I did purchase one of the other albums, which would you recommend?

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-02-2006 06:19 PM

Rubby Factory is probably the most diverse , plus it`s their latest album as far as their own material goes.

The other 2 albums are very much blues based & pretty primative sounding.

Laces Out Dan! 06-02-2006 07:15 PM

I heard the song Thick Freakness...i learned it on guitar..its a pretty tight track

boo boo 06-02-2006 10:59 PM

I only have thickfreakness, some fantastic blues based hard rock.

stakeraiser 06-05-2006 09:44 PM

hmm, from what I've heard, they kick ass live, its not like they are working with a huge band

All their albums rock... hard

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-07-2006 11:10 AM

The Black Keys John Peel session from 07/05/03 if anybody is interested......

MURDER JUNKIE 06-07-2006 11:32 AM

All of you should try Maximum RnR

The guitar player is my Epitaph hook up and I get MAD free SH!T, I have never paid for an EPI release

Great band nonetheless

half_baked87 09-21-2006 08:16 PM

The Black Keys

Anyone heard of these guys? I beleive they are on Epitaph, not sure. my friend richard showed me some of their stuff the other day and i really dug it. they have a dirty groovy blues sound, really cool and unique.

http://myspace.com/theblackkeys

MoonlitSunshine 09-22-2006 10:13 AM

Yeah I love their stuff. I have two of their albums. It's funny though it's such a black soul sound, but they're just two white guys...

half_baked87 09-22-2006 11:35 AM

two skinny white guys from akron ohio lol.

Merkaba 09-22-2006 03:35 PM

I downloaded an album a while back and I think they're pretty bloody good, haven't given them too much of my time but they're certainly on my "must listen to more of" list.
