"Tighten Up" leaked, and was then made into the first single off the album. This is the only Danger Mouse produced track this time around, so it may appeal to the "Attack & Release" crowd. Disliked all but the last minute of the song with the key change for a long time, then suddenly it clicked. Diggin' it.

Later, two more songs leaked - "Next Girl" and "Everlasting Light". This prompted the label to go on a frenzy getting the leaks removed from any and all outlets, with threatening letters/emails/etc.

"Next Girl" has finally been 'embraced' as being okay out there. My gripe about these songs so far is that they seem to have simplified their style, it's way more tame than the riffs of the past...

"Everlasting Light" sees Dan Auerbach belting a falsetto range tune. Love the dark, crawling tone to the song, still 50/50 on the falsetto. No official release yet, but I see it hasn't been pulled from this blog:

Your Third Ear: The Black Keys | "Next Girl" "The Everlasting Light"

Album is out in 3 weeks. Enjoy.

Seeing them in July. I hope the new album isn't as tame as you describe it...

I think I posted this somewhere else as well, but this quote is keeping me inspired. From Mark O'Neill, producer of Brothers:

"Everything that you’ve read so far about this album, about it being heavy and dark, their best record yet, that’s not spin, that’s not jive, those were honest assessments from people who were involved. If I have any clout in all of this, which I hope I do after making really good records for a long time, I really do believe The Black Keys are unique in their being brave enough to make a record that is this emotionally raw. I will say emotionally raw, sonically it’s no more raw than ‘Keep It Hid’.

This record can be summed up very very easily: they are more emotionally raw than they’ve ever been captured. Don’t think as a record producer I didn’t notice that that didn’t scare the crap out of everybody involved [laughs]. Everybody involved is still like ‘Oh my gosh!’ Because it is that good, it is a good record. Maybe people will listen to it and say ‘Oh, I don’t know, I think Chulahoma is just as good’"

Summary: It should be dark, and excellent.

'Brothers' has leaked. I've only listened to it once but so far I'm not disappointed.

I'm a newbie here on the forums.

The Black Keys is my favorite band! I saw them live a couple weeks ago at Yuri's Night. They were amazing.

I have all of their music and can't wait for the new album to come out.

My favorite albums are Rubber Factory, Magic Potion, and Thickfreakness.
I also really love the collaboration with hiphop/rap artists they did for Blakroc. Great album.

Same here. 1 listen and I quite like it, step up from Attack & Release. What are your stand out tracks on first listen?

Thanks for the heads up +81... Didn't even think to check for the whole album leak!

So far, not really moved by the new stuff- at all. They still have a good sound, it's just not the sound that drew me into them in the first place.

They've now completely removed themselves from the power and energy that defined their previous work. It's more soul, and just way too mellow and tame for my liking. For the first time in my life listening to one of their records I found myself wanting to skip track after track after track...

I like the first three songs "Everlasting Light", "Next Girl", and "Tighten Up". "Howlin' For You" is borderline at this point; it definitely seems like it will grow on me over time. "Black Mud" is good, but it's just a 2 minute instrumental bridge. "Sinister Kid" stands out towards the rear. Everything else I rated 3 stars- which in my book means it doesn't suck, but I will skip it 90% of the time.

This is seriously a sad day :( I might not even buy this album :( This is quite literally depressing, pourmeanother saaaad panda :(
