Sea Change isn't my favortie beck album, but I own it, and its alright. Paper Tiger is pretty good as well, and whatever the first track is. (You can see how often I listen to it).
wille mason is a lot more rooted in the country realms of singer/songwriter musicianship id say. his music is a lot more relaxed and laid back. beck to me can be classed in two junctures- with the dust brothers and without the dust brothers. with the dust brothers he is amazing- odelay and guero being obvious examples. minus the dust brothers he loses a bit of his edge. midnight vultures for example. that said. mutations is also a great album and overall i like him a lot.

Whats wrong with midnight vultures? Debra and Pecahes and Cream were amazing songs. I know he sounds like jimmy fallon, but hey, its the music that counts.

I think Iron and Wine and Jack White could be S/S contemps of Beck now that I think of it.

beck is incredible, because there's nobody that sounds like beck. he's his own genre as far as i'm concerned. i'm a huge fan of his earlier work

I saw them live with radiohead last August. They were amazing and they're great on stage. I highly recommend seeing them if you get a chance!
