Beck Is God!!!

I love Beck, he's brilliant/gorgeous/awesome...or whatever you would like to call him (something positive of course)...
Everybody who thinks the same way should join this thread!!!
WELCOME!!!

I'm a loser, Baby...

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-22-2005 02:06 PM

If I remove the painful memory of Midnite Vultures then i`d proabably agree with you.

How can you not like a guy who accepts a brit award in a bath surrounded by people wearing horses heads.

Josephine 05-22-2005 02:10 PM

Funny guy...

Yeah, exactly! U have to love him...

Do ya know that stuff he did on SNL, he's funny as well :)

Well, I like "Sexx Laws", as u can see through my signature. "Midnite Vultures" is not THAT bad...

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-22-2005 02:14 PM

Well to be fair your sig is from one of the 2 good songs on that album

Sneer 05-22-2005 02:16 PM

midnight vultures isnt the worst thing he;s done- that accoloade belongs to mellow gold. im a biiiiiiiiiiiiig fan of odelay and guero- 2 of my favourite albums. hes just a bit inconsistent with his offerings in terms of quality. either bloody good or bloody awful.

Imonlydancing 05-22-2005 02:21 PM

yeah, i love beck, sexx laws is probably my favorite Beck song. i'd love to see him live...and meet him infact.

Josephine 05-22-2005 02:24 PM

I would like to meet him, too...

I agree totally...and I would tell him that he's not a loser at all...:)

haha, yeah, i'm actually grateful for 'loser' i love it soo much, and now i can actually say something other that 'pencil sharpener' in spanish :)

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-22-2005 02:35 PM

Someone should slap him for Hanson though

EDGE 05-22-2005 02:36 PM

Did I hear hanson?

Imonlydancing 05-22-2005 02:39 PM

Beck Hanson.

TheBig3 05-22-2005 05:04 PM

Slap him for what?

And What the hell is wrong with Mellow Gold?

Imonlydancing 05-24-2005 01:13 PM

sorry, Beck Hansen*

Josephine 05-24-2005 02:20 PM

Beck Hansen

She meant to slap him for his name: "Beck Hansen", that's his name.
And there's nothing wrong with Beck at all... It's always subjective to judge which album/song is best. So if u like "Mellow Gold" there's nothing wrong with it.

Imonlydancing 05-24-2005 02:23 PM

thats why i was saying Beck Hansen :D

How about being instrumental in getting Hanson a record deal , which is what I was originally referring to

Really? My church is clearly referring to BECK... We've little pics of him in our bible and a special meeting - every sunday before divine service - in which we discuss his newest songs and interviews...

Josephine 05-26-2005 11:07 AM

Please don't accuse me of being blasphemous or something...

Imonlydancing 05-26-2005 11:30 AM

I'm guessing his answer is no.

Imonlydancing 05-26-2005 11:30 AM

oh crap. wrong thread. :D

boo boo 11-27-2005 04:01 PM

Beck

Any Beck fans here?...Odelay is amazing...I havent heard Guero yet, but i have heard some positive things about it, i might purcase it eventualy, what did you guys think?

franscar 11-27-2005 05:08 PM

I think you should buy Guero is what I think. You certainly won't be disappointed. Personally my favourite Beck album, although I must admit being quite partial to Sea Change as well, even though nobody else was.

Electric Eye 11-27-2005 05:26 PM

he's ok.

half_baked87 11-27-2005 06:13 PM

beck is the ****. devils haircut is my fav from odelay. hell yes is a good one guero, its got a more hip-hop feel, good head bobbin tune

TheBig3 11-27-2005 06:31 PM

What supises me most about the Beck cannon is that Sea Change was so well recieved and Midnight Vultures was reviewd so poorly. I own SC and I don't really care for it, and they play MV at least once a week at work and I think its amazing.

Beck in general is hot ****. He should be as highly reviewd as Radiohead and David Bowie, who I think are not as good as Beck, but get far more respect.

Imonlydancing 11-28-2005 04:38 AM

I like Beck.
Yeup.
I'm sure there is a thread on him already called 'BECK IS GOD' or something...Josephine started it...I'm suprised I remember thatt.

TheBig3 12-11-2005 05:59 PM

Beck

To me, Folk and Singer/Songwriters are the same thing, and to me, Beck might be one of the better new ones out there. An admitted fan of Hank Williams, the man runs the gammit (sp?) from stupidity to deeply insghtful.

If we are including Beck in this forum, who would you say are his pseudo-folie contemporaries?

adidasss 12-12-2005 03:59 AM

he is a singer songwriter first and formost, a modern turbadour if you like, despite the fact that he takes a different approach to the whole folk thing, not being affraid to put on a kick ass beat and make danceable songs, i downloaded most of his albums, odelay is my favourite, guerro isn't half bad either, and even though i haven't quite listened through sea change ( after going through hell and back to download it ), lost cause is such a beautiful song that it's gotta be good too...
so as far as contemporaries, i would say willie mason, bright eyes and the likes....

TheBig3 12-12-2005 07:37 AM

Im not familiar with this willie mason, care to share your secrets sir?

Sea Change isn't my favortie beck album, but I own it, and its alright. Paper Tiger is pretty good as well, and whatever the first track is. (You can see how often I listen to it).

wille mason is a lot more rooted in the country realms of singer/songwriter musicianship id say. his music is a lot more relaxed and laid back. beck to me can be classed in two junctures- with the dust brothers and without the dust brothers. with the dust brothers he is amazing- odelay and guero being obvious examples. minus the dust brothers he loses a bit of his edge. midnight vultures for example. that said. mutations is also a great album and overall i like him a lot.

TheBig3 12-12-2005 08:09 AM

Whats wrong with midnight vultures? Debra and Pecahes and Cream were amazing songs. I know he sounds like jimmy fallon, but hey, its the music that counts.

I think Iron and Wine and Jack White could be S/S contemps of Beck now that I think of it.

TheBig3 09-16-2006 06:25 PM

Does anyone else think his new song (that I can't spell) sucks just a bit?

swim 09-16-2006 06:26 PM

I think 60% of his music sucks.

Muzak 09-16-2006 07:14 PM

Mellow Gold FTW.

It amazes me that you'd come in here then.

half_baked87 09-17-2006 08:36 PM

beck is incredible, because there's nobody that sounds like beck. he's his own genre as far as i'm concerned. i'm a huge fan of his earlier work

Sneer 10-27-2006 06:19 PM

incidentally, who has the new album? maybe a review would be nice as im yet to invest in it.

adidasss 11-22-2006 12:59 PM

can't believe noone commented on The information yet, i found out about it on a fluke, didn't even know he was recording a new one already ( seems like Guerro only came out yesterday ). one of the best albums of the year methinks, the man is a freakin genious....plus, the extra DVD with a video for every track and a make-your-own-cover?! inovative, groundbreaking and so freakin cool!! great to dance to, awesome to chill out to....buy it now!!

MoonlitSunshine 11-22-2006 01:53 PM

I saw them live with radiohead last August. They were amazing and they're great on stage. I highly recommend seeing them if you get a chance!
