I think Gamma Ray was definitely in my Top 10 songs of 2008.

Thanks for the tip, that's sounds very interesting.

I love Beck, my favorite album of his is Sea Change. Very mellow material, but great.

My favourite Beck album is Mutations.

I could never decide a favourite ever album, but whenever I'm asked, Mutations by Beck is always my first thought.

Mutations is so underrated when people talk about mellow Beck they bring up Sea Change but Mutations is where it's at. Also the man's site never disappoints. He's been putting up acoustic versions of tracks from Modern Guilt and had a really interesting conversation with Tom Waits.

As far as Beck goes for me,there are wild variations in quality between albums.
Odelay is great stuff,as is Mellow Gold and Sea Change.
Modern Guilt and Mutations are good not great.
Midnite Vultures and Guero are rubbish.

Anyone else find this?

You're missing a few, aren't you? What about the contemporary folk masterpiece that is One Foot in the Grave?

Anyway, I actually think some of the singles from Midnite Vultures are awesome, notably Sexx Laws, but overall the album wasn't very good. Interesting experimentation though.

I'm surprised by how much I loved Modern Guilt. I never really *loved* beck but found Modern Guilt totally refreshing and accessible (maybe the opposite for some people?). I don't know why but I didn't really like the saccharine sweetness and banality of "Time Bomb."
