For someone who practises the drums in a pitch black room for hours on end, with an almost full circle arrangement of symbols and heads, I always thought Carey was underated.
His work with Tool is great but on his own he can do some of the most amazing things. Even for his work on understanding Tabla to a high level, and working with Aloke Dutta, I give him credit. And I know this is not an "underated drummers" thread, but Phil Taylor of Motorhead is hugely underated. I saw him doing a short solo in a studio just the other night on telly. The guy is a madman, an absolute thrillseeker and plays with the tenacity and style of Moon, a truely underated man.
