Gene Holgan from Strapping Young Lad (as well as a huge assortment of other bands)

This dude is insane, last time Opeth came to Vancouver Canada their drummer had a panic attack and flew back to Sweden. So Mikhail gets on the phone to Devin Townsend explaining to him the situation and asking him if he knows any drummers who could fill in for their show. So Devin calls up Gene, asks him, drives over to house with a few Opeth CD's, lets him listen to them and decides to do the show. During the rehearsal Gene managed to nail every song on their set list after like two or three times and delivered a flawless show. I just wish I was old enough to go see them at the time (was only 17 at the time and it was at a bar).

Dennis Chambers, hands down. But if you're talking about the genre of rock then Terry Bozzio, Matt Cameron and Prairie Prince (The Tubes). To me, the best means "most versatile". Just banging away on drums and making loud noises isn't enough. Being able to seamlessly blend from one style to another is what makes a great drummer. I've seen all these guys play styles as varied as r&b/funk, rock/metal, blues, fusion and even reggae and confidently hold their own.

I love Keith Moon. The guy was friggin amazing! It was a tough choice between him and Bonham, though. Bonham was pretty solid.

Ahh yes....+1 on Mr. Bozzio. I'd love to say Thomas Haake, but he doesn't branch out, and since "best" means to fit general census....versatility is key. He's good...but not versatile.

One of my favorite drummers just said bye bye to the "band"... Jimmy Chamberlin, the only other remaining Pumpkin, Just left Billy with a one man band... I guess Billy probably never minded it that way though! :)

Sad isn't it... Just when i thought they were going to make a GOOD album again. Oh well, I guess I'll have to settle for Zeitgeist.

Hopefully Billy the one man band pumpkin can pull out some good musical tricks and the next album doesn't wind up sounding like TheFutureEmbrace...god I hope not, he's gotta have learned...
