Of the five on the list, I wouldn't rate Moon higher than fourth. Of the five listed, I would rate them as follows: 1. Baker 2. Bonham 3. Peart 4. Moon 5. Carey |
For someone who practises the drums in a pitch black room for hours on end, with an almost full circle arrangement of symbols and heads, I always thought Carey was underated.
His work with Tool is great but on his own he can do some of the most amazing things. Even for his work on understanding Tabla to a high level, and working with Aloke Dutta, I give him credit. And I know this is not an "underated drummers" thread, but Phil Taylor of Motorhead is hugely underated. I saw him doing a short solo in a studio just the other night on telly. The guy is a madman, an absolute thrillseeker and plays with the tenacity and style of Moon, a truely underated man. |
I voted for danny carey, because hes insanely talented. not saying that none of the others are, because they definately are, carey is just my favorite.
i think pat mcgrath should be on that list. he is crazier than any other drummer i have ever heard in my life. he was the old drum tech for slayer, but i know his for his work with the original saosin. im disappointed that he isnt more well known. |
Yeah some of his drumming in Slayer was pretty amazing. I don't know about technicality but the speed and balance of it was awesome.
|
his stuff with saosin was very solid. he kinda did what carey does where he throws in extra stuff and stays away from the snare and hi hat fills. really stands out on "they perch" in particular.

Ringo Starr;
He held The Beatles together, and deserves more credit than one simple post can bestow... |
i picked keith moon

Baker, on that list, certainly.
On a whole though, Frost from Satyricon takes the cake. His work with 1349 was amazing as well. The guy SEES music or something. |
Im sure ive posted on a thread of a similar concept to this before...
i agree with Eloqwentflow that Frost from Satyricon/1349 is very good. and Phil Taylor of Motorhead i found quite impressive. |
