And it really looks like they're confused when they're on drums - like they don't know which head they should hit. In my book, mechanical (not technical) finesse and energy counts for waaaaay much more than how big your drum kit is.

I'll take John Dolmayan over Neil Peart any day.

I can understand you thinking Neil Peart is over the top, but I really don't think Danny Carey is... don't mistake chops for showing off. His parts are quite technical, but also very fitting... he has excellent feel. And I didn't have to endure any sort of drum solo when I saw Tool live.

Good show off.

Bad show off.

Buddy Rich was a phenomenal jazz drummer...it's a shame that kids today idolize drummers like Joey Jordison and Travis Barker.

Seriously, both of those guys are insanely overrated, and even if they were that good, it's not like it makes a difference, their band still sucks.

Ringo?
He fitted the vibe
but he was terrible wasnt he?

boo boo 08-15-2008 02:47 AM

Uh no?

FireInCairo 08-15-2008 03:14 AM

I more meant that he was not particularly endowed with rhythmic talent...

boo boo 08-15-2008 04:32 AM

Yeah well you mean wrong. He was no virtuoso but his rhythm is great, his drumming provided some of the best hooks in Beatles songs.

FireInCairo 08-15-2008 04:53 AM

I think I'll offer my apologies here
My blinding hatred of beatles worship has blinded me

lucifer_sam 08-15-2008 02:31 PM

I've always loved Kyuss but I could never get hooked by Brant's drumming.

I think a lot of people fail to recognize what a supremely talented drummer Phil Collins was. He might have some of the cheesiest prog lyrics, but he was really great when Gabriel was still at the top.
