Those guys are jazz drummers. Here you go.http://www.musicbanter.com/showthread.php?t=11768 |
Ahhh, but here's the thing, they can play rock. Rock < Jazz so basically if you can play jazz, you can probably play rock no problem, however you play rock, then you might not play jazz that well.

*cough* Get me a double bass, 20 cymbals and 10 drums, and I'll play what he plays, seriously, the guy who's "pro" got schooled by some kid from Africa I think. I'm not sure, but I heard they had this competition, and the kid played Joeys part with the double bass, with 1 foot, and the other foot he used to hit a cow bell. Joey Jordison is not talented at all. And just to save you time, don't say "well he can drum upside down" because he stole that from Buddy Rich, who by the way, is 100000000000000000000x the drummer Joey will ever be and he only had a 5 pc kit with 3 or 4 cymbals. |

Yes, I see your point. But they played mainly jazz and that is what they excelled at. If you think a drummer who grasps the intensity and definition of rock, then Bonham or Moon definatley come to mind more than a legendary jazz drummer. A lot of rock drummers can play a wide variety of genres. So it's not always the case that rock drummers are lesser musicians. |
Yes I know, I'm just saying if you can play jazz you can definatly play rock, if you can play rock, dosn't mean you can play jazz.
|
Didn't Jordison win Jazz championships in high school? Kinda blows away your ignorant opinion, no?
And no, Jazz is not harder than Rock, its diffrent and thus proficency at one is not going to make you great at the other. Theres going through the motions and then theres playing rock music. |
Yeah, he did win a Jazz competition, Here in des moines, at Valley High School.
|
He won a high school jazz competition that's great.. I could win a high school jazz competition, dosn't mean I'm good.
And you must not drum, because basically Jazz and Latin drumming are the 2 hardest, rock is pretty much the easiest, I mean seriously, I could teach you 12 rock beats in the matter of an hour, where as latin and jazz it's a bit harder. |
First of all, I think you're right, I remember when two stoners won the national jazz competition in high school while ****ed up on whiskey and Russian Red. I think we even trained a a monkey to win a jazz competition...nationally. I mean, who even goes to those things?
Secondly, shmuck, I could teach you a latin beat in about 10 seconds (or at least we taught the money that quickly) but then you seem to be skewing the argument. You couldn't teach someone the greatest rock drummers parts quicker than the greatest jazz drummers. I could teach you to write the intersoliloquey patter of Shakespeare but that doesn't mean you write like him. Meg White plays rock, but so does Danny Carrey who I happen to think is the most mind blowing drummer I've ever seen live. |
Sometimes a average drummer is all a great band needs... For proof check out The Beatles, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, The Ramones, GnR, etc.
