I've seen Neil Peart do some amazing things with his gigantic drumkit, but after seeing "Moby ****" on How The West Was Won, Bonham pulled ahead of all other rock drummers for me.

Of course, it is my belief that Danny Carey comes up with the coolest drum beats, because he has the more experimental music to work with.

Hes no where near one of the best, i think he does a damn good job despite his handicap, but as a all-around drummer, hes decent and nothing more, in my opinion.

I loved Pyromania though, it had some pretty good drumming too, that was before he lost his arm.

1.) Martin Lopez (Opeth)
2.) Danny Carey (Tool)
3.) Mike Mangini (Steve Vai Band)
4.) John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
5.) Neil Peart (Rush)
6.) Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Fantomas)
7.) Vinnie Paul (Pantera)
8.) Iced Earth drummer (name??)
9.) Tim Alexander (Primus)
10.) Steve Flynn (Atheist)
11.) Flo Mournier (Cryptopsy, *)
12.) Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine)
13.) John Dolmayan (SOAD)
14.) Ian Paice (Deep Purple)
15.) Jon Theodore (Mars Volta)
16.) Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
17.) Stewart Copeland (Sting, *)
18.) Jose Pasillas (Incubus)
19.) Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters...)
20.) Joey Jordison (Slipknot, *)

I struggled to come up with 20 since I'm not a drumming fanatic. But I think those are all good drummers. Marked with * are the ones judged from what I've heard (which isn't much).

^^ Vinnie Paul makes drumming sound cool but he's only doing what any Thrash drummer would have to do.

I like Vinnie Paul. I think he keeps his drumming pretty interesting. He made on to my list on that merit. I thought the drumming throughout the Cowboys from Hell album was pretty good.

Why not? John Bonham is a good drummer. I think he deserves to be on the list since he was an even better drummer for his time. Keith Moon might be better, but I haven't heard enough of the Who to judge.

musical talent is only a small part of being a good artist...

moon, portnoy, jordison etc. get in for style alone

grohl only drummed for nirvana did he not? i know he did some side projects with qotsa and others, but i really dont think he played drums for the foos

But Bonham has more than talent. Some of my main reasons for him being up there are style and feel. Personally, I think he has amazing feel for the drums. And he did have a drumming style. Bonham was good in the sense that he hit the drums hard. That is not considered so important nowadays with drum microphones etc, but it used to be. He often broke drumskins.

I thought he played for the Foos. I'm not a huge fan though so hopefully someone will clarify this.
