Chris Cornell has acoustic versions of soundgarden songs, but most without Kim playing, an MTV unplugged soundtrack with Kim would've been nice.
Like Suicide was the earliest single that is close to what I imagine Soundgarden would've sounded like unplugged.

YouTube - Soundgarden - Like Suicide (Acoustic)

YouTube - Chris Cornell Performance (rare acoustic)

YouTube - CHRIS CORNELL "Fell On Black Days" (solo acoustic)

YouTube - Chris Cornell - Black Hole Sun

this is pretty much exactly why i think a Soundgarden unplugged session would suck. it's not that it's a bad tune, and it's not that Cornell's acoustic demos are bad, not in the least.

...but can you imagine Kim Thayil trying to emulate the sound of a helicopter on an acoustic like he does for the intro to Jesus Christ Pose? there's no denying Cornell was the figurehead for the band, but you're focusing on the cult of personality if you don't recognize that it was Thayil's riffs that drove their sound, and that sound just doesn't carry as much punch when it's unplugged.

now... a Chris Cornell unplugged with choice SG tracks, and other random things he's done in the past with a few special guests here and there... THAT could be huge. though it should have happened just before announcing a reunion.

Complexity has no correlation to how good music is or is not...

Cornell may be the most powerful screamer ever. BadMotorFinger being the best display of his abilities.

Interesting, because I think Plant is a godly singer.

I disagree. It's not a direct factor, but a piece that has both gripping features and complexity is often the best stuff. Complexity is also not simply instrumental technicality, like many attribute it to. A lot of music people think is simplistic on an initial listen is actually not.

I think so as well, and I'd rate Cornell a notch higher. What do you think of Cornell's regular singing voice, outside of his higher end rasp, wails and screams?
