Maybe it had just become mainstream, but the Seattle movement was recognized by music people well before then. There's no doubt STP was influenced by those bands but was not originally part of the movement itself...

STP debut 1992 and Bush 1995 also I recognize that Bush are often seen as post-grunge but lets face it, they sound like a terrible Nirvana covers band and initially didn`t bring anything new to grunge to be called post. At least the other so called post grunge bands had their own sound which was as diverse as the grunge bands before them.

I think that post-grunge could really be applied to anything that sounded grungy and had a distinctive grunge influence, which is why I think of groups like Foo Fighters as the leading light in this movement in a very life affirming way.

I definitely wouldn't call STP "grunge". But post-grunge is a little much.

I would, as would anyone else I know who was alive and listening to music back then. They were one of the main grunge bands.

I think you'll agree that in retrospect, they hardly deserve to be grouped in with giants like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Nirvana. Not that STP weren't a great band. Their first two albums are 90s classics.

They were just as big as the above bands but just happened to come from LA but certainly agree that their first two albums were their best. I always think of them as a biggie of the grunge movement as well.

They were in the second wave, though. Instead of being a highly original and influential group, they were spawned from the big grunge bands, they weren't part of creating the sound or image.

They just hopped on the bandwagon. Which is fine, I like the band. Just saying.

Hopped on the bandwagon!!! I can see why that could be aimed at STP but they had all the talent to carve out their own niche though and a vocalist to match the brilliance of Cornell, Vedder and Staley. Then there is hopping on the bandwagon like Bush did..............but without any talent of course.
