Ok, I get how Evanescence may not be someone's cup of tea but to say they suck is ignorant. I constantly hear people comparing them to Nightwish and Epica, ect. THEY AREN'T THAT STYLE, GET OVER IT.
If you want to line them up with similar bands I'd say: Within Temptation, Noctura, We Are The Fallen, and Lacuna Coil (the new stuff). Even then it's hard to say that, Evanescence has a style that is their own. Look at The Open Door, I have found NOTHING like that. (Thank you D.J Lethal) Then if you go back to Ben Moody's Evanescence, it's a bit more gothic ROCK (not metal, not pop, shut the **** up). Then go back to David Hodges' Evanescence in the Origin days, and the music is very vast, Anywhere is very different from Understanding which is different from Even in Death. EV is amazing. They really blew me away when they took a classical piece of Mozart's work and made Lacrymosa. P.S. Amy Lee does not sing pure opera, THAT'S WHY SHE'S NOT LIKE TARJA! P.S.S. If you say Evanescence is not gothic listen to Lies, okay?
