I`m guessing i`m one of the very few people who prefer the Dianno era Maiden. They had more of an edge to them then.

I loved his quote when he first heard Dickenson singing Remember Tomorrow

'F*cking hell , he sounds like a bloody opera singer'

Metallica have the better sound. For my tastes anyway. I love the way Kirk plays his guitar. Intro's to songs like Shortest Straw and instrumentals to songs like One, I find much more appealing then the sound of Maiden. Maiden may be more raw, but to me Metallica have the better progression and craftsmanship. And as much as I hate Hetfield, the band was quite simply shitkicking. My favourite cd is ...And Justice For All. Far more entertaining then Black in my opinion.

The one song I truely like by Maiden is Wicker Man. Trooper is good too, but I won't say I'm a Maiden fan by any stretch, stupid whiny Hill song

I just saw this and felt like I should repsond even thought Kempson is no longer on this board.

Alexi Laiho (principle guitarist of COB) is probably the most overrated musician in music today.

and the original far surpasses the cover.

because it's Maiden. THEY BRING TEH M3TAL!!!1

I liked the Di'anno era a lot too. Everyone seems to think that Bruce is a better singer, and he is really good, especially when singing Fear Of The Dark live, but Di'anno was just as talented IMO.

I haven't voted because I just can't decide. Maiden and Metallica are two of my favourite bands. I think they're both amazing.

Who else is up for Judas Priest too?!
I totally agree with you there, but...I believe that Metallica is (more like was) always the better band and they did alot more for heavy metal than maiden!!! Maiden was good and I still enjoy listening to them, but they don't compare to Metallica, ya hear?

I'd probally have to say that "justice" was my favorite metallica album too!!! Much better than "Ride The Lightning"!!!In fact "Ride The Lightning" is the only earlier album of metallica's that I don't have anymore and don't care all that much about either!!!It just wasn't all that good of one to hold on to, ya hear?

As in listen and you can tell an obvious difference!!!

Metallica was obviously much more influential to metal throughout there career than maiden ever was or will be!!!Maiden is more like rock with some leads and a "soaring"/high pitched voice, while metallica was more crunch/thrash heavy metal with obviously many well calculated double bass drum beats, clearly making a much more (heavy) metal sound!!!

If you still can't "hear" it, then I guess you'll just have to keep on listening!!!
Your choice, crow!!!

Metallica sounds more thrashy because they're thrash/speed metal.

Iron Maiden is definitely heavy metal. Just remember that metal can have high pitched talented vocals. And also remember that Led Zeppelin was once considered heavy metal. Heavy music has many definitions.

I wouldn't say Metallica is definitely more influential. In terms of numbers of fans, yes. But Iron Maiden did more for metal than Metallica did. Maiden led NWOBHM and practically created power metal. Metallica really didn't do a huge amount for thrash.

And also, Nicko McBrain is ten times the drummer that Ulrich is .
