Of course I have. Archetypal means image and sound. When you think of metal Iron Maiden come to the fore especially In Britain. I love Sabbath but they are more influential than archetypal. Sabbath ventured into other territories with their music whereas Maiden have always just played metal.

Guess it just depends how you look at it. Black Sabbath obviously laid the groundwork for heavy metal, so to me, that would render them "the archetypal metal band".

Yes but a lot of people don't know about Sabbath's influence and only see the full package- songs, imagery, album covers etc and for that Iron Maiden FIT the accepted image of metal better than Sabbath. For the record I am not dismissing Sabbath. I prefer them (only just though!) to Maiden because of their influence, but metal is a package as much as it is about music.
