I went with Metallica simply because I love all but one of their albums.
And because after seeing them perform songs from St. Anger I gained a new found appreciation for it even though I still don't really like it as much as their old stuff.

I have always really liked Metallica, but haven't gotten interested as much in Iron Maiden, Metallica just appeals more to me.

Both are pretty irritating but I'd pick maiden. They have more solid songs.

Yeah, metallica tend to write songs like houses of cards, or gaseous cloud formations.
Iron Maiden uses concrete.
