I don't get the hate for the first 2 Slayer albums.

I think they have a kind of dumb charm to them.

I like the naivety of Show No Mercy but it is nothing special really when compared to many albums that came about at the same time but try as I might I just find Hell Awaits a rehearsal for things to come although the Haunting The Chapel E.P is great.

As for Reign In Blood being too quiet production wise I think it is produced superbly and sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Stunning snare sound. Araya's vocals never sounded better and the usual rambling Slayer guitar solos are used to maximum effect.

With the exception of the vocals, the live version sounds infinitely more powerful. To me, the entire album sounds extremely muffled(I think it's the way the guitars are recorded). I don't know why. I don't get that from Seasons in the Abyss, or South Of Heaven at all. However, for some reason Reign In Blood has always just sounded weak. Maybe I need to hear the vinyl version or something...

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
Al Pacino = God

For me, Hell Awaits is incredibly good the whole way through. I'm not sure why. The production sucks but maybe the songs would sound a lot better if they'd had Rick Rubin produce them.

Of course, Reign In Blood sounds better.

My second favorite is Hell Awaits. 3rd is Show No Mercy. And I honestly love the album cover. All thrash bands in the early-80s had stupid hand drawn album covers. This one is memorable because it reflects the true greatness of Slayer.
