When Manson started out kids were not even buying songs one at a time from "I-Tunes " so the point that I'm trying to make is he is over. A fad which spawned a bunch of Goth kids wandering around wearing anything as long as it was "black". He has little if any influence on today's youth. What does is rap music on numerous levels. Oh and for the youth of today who are weak minded and can be swayed easily videos do influence them.....

marlyn manson to me........ let me explain this in the best wat

ok so first off marilyn manson is a DECENT aka PRETTY GOOD act. i always thought 'hey he makes a few good tunes' but nothing mind blowin or crazy. on the contrare nothing terrible. and that's really where he was IMO. and then you know following huge media events, columbine comes to mind), i feel like he became over rated because there was so many wannabe edgy and cool idiots who thought he was amazing when relly they felt he was decent but their personal desire to be edgy and cool overcame them. so he became a little over rated. like 50 cent, he is a fantastic markerter. he has marketed himself as well as anybody with his talent level. establishing an identity and ridin with it but i cant help but feel the internet over rates him. hes a guy who made a few pretty good tunes

KMS 07-13-2013 10:56 PM

^ It's not always just about the music though. A music experience is a subjective thing anyway, so if his imagery and 'vibe' spurred a bunch of people to get it into further, it's as legit as anything else.

I wouldn't compare it on any level with 50 cent. A lot of Manson's stuff is very subpar, but some very real and full of a lot of feeling and energy. 50's plastic all the way.

Live shows 90s through the early 2000s were pretty great as well. Well worth attending.

Marilyn Manson to me is one of those artists that are widely known for something but the thing they used to do hasn't aged well. There was so much hype and controversy around him, sometimes because of things he had nothing to do with and other times because of his antics, but his music doesn't fully live up to it. I think he's one of those "you had to be there to get it" things. It just hasn't held up well.

His main problem is that he won't just call it quits and let it go. Most of antics aren't that shocking anymore, when he makes the news it's always over trying hard to get attention by insulting other celebrities or being downright distasteful. If he had just retired when his popularity began to drop he could be much more beloved now, if nothing else than just for the nostalgia factor.

I don't think that most people hate him, just that the general public doesn't quite notice him that much anymore.

Personally, his music bores me.

KMS 07-14-2013 03:01 AM

He definitely should have retired when the buzz waned. The thing is -- how can you shock the public anymore? You have to go into really despicable territory to shock this desensitized generation.

That's exactly my point... his persona hasn't aged well. He should have retired or maybe tried to keep up with his original fans by changing his act. As it is he keeps trying to be down with the times but ends up being a caricature of himself. Most people I know just think he's weird with maybe a couple of songs that they like, if that. Aside from teenagers who think he's edgy or something.

I don't think that we're a desensitized generation. What I do think is that he keeps trying to do what he did in the beginning even though things stop being shocking after the first time you've done them. He hasn't changed his act to appeal more to a younger set of listeners and hasn't tried to mature a bit to keep up with his older fans. In my opinion he's also rather gimmicky, his musical is nothing that outstanding and his fame is more based on shocking 90s parents.

I listen to some Gore core but Marilyn Manson scares the **** out of me.

Marilyn Manson was really good when they were the Spooky Kids and when he had Gidget, Pogo, Sara and Daisy. he really messed up getting rid of Gidget in my opinion. I like some of his newer stuff too. I have all of his albums, favorite is Portrait of an American Family.
MANSON FAN FOREVER

Marilyn Manson

Loved his music since I heard 'Tainted Love' back in 2002. I know he's not a great singer but I find his voice/music infectious. Thought i'd leave you all with a few of my favourite tracks from him...

12 years on for me (nearly 13), and he's still going strong. Got the majority of his albums from 1994 to present.

Meh on Manson but John Lowery (John 5) who use to be his guitarist - and now plays with Rob Zombie - is an amazing guitar player.

^That was sweet..

Music-Fanatic 03-05-2015 04:44 PM

I love John 5. Got his album 'Careful With That Axe'. There's a track or two on there just like the 'Sugar foot Rag'. Great Guitarist.

:beer:Manson seems to be known for his covers. He is a bright individual though. John 5 is awesome.

Marilyn Manson's West Hollywood apartment is RAIDED by sheriff's investigators who seized hard drives while probing claims he sexually assaulted multiple women including his actress ex Evan Rachel Wood

Scarlett O'Hara 12-06-2021 04:12 PM

I feel so terrible for the women he abused. The details are shocking and I realise that signs were there from reading his autobiography that I own. It depresses me as I really like his music but I just don't condone him.

In my opinion, propaganda of violence should not be in the video. Since now the Internet is available to everyone, from the smallest. And they can stumble upon violence without any problems, and the result you yourself can foresee

The influences of rock music and the contemporary rock
artist Marilyn Manson upon the youth of Today

Do you think the video could promote violence? What kind of person or things is influential these days? Why do you think they are influential?

thank you

For my opinion music of Manson is something about counter culture, not about violence. Music videos? Yes they are creepy but this is an open horror, not hidden and you know what will be, you are ready for this. I think there are more problems with hidden horror in videos, where violence is hidden in the subtext.
Influence of his music on young people nowadays is almost minimal. He is human and getting older. But if we are talk about his "influence on teenagers in 00's" I think that problem was not in him or his music but in society of that years! There was some good words from him interview:

Evan Rachel Wood claims ex Marilyn Manson tied her up, shocked her genitals with a BDSM sex toy, made her drink his blood, and beat her with a Nazi whip from the Holocaust after she tried to leave him

Queen Boo 03-19-2022 08:32 AM

Jeezus even the way he abuses women reeks of edgelord.

Sooo uhhh.....I take it they've got the provenance of MM's nazi whip, right?

FETCHER. 03-22-2022 10:12 PM

Wow

What is the percentage on people who believe her and people who believe him??

Queen Boo 03-22-2022 10:18 PM

Not sure I want to know.

FETCHER. 03-23-2022 04:57 AM

There is that. I think a new story came out recently too. I wonder if he is still hanging around with Kanye. I can remember he was at one of his shows and everyone was kicking up **** because he was there

Two shows I think. Both of his Donda premiere events. But who would disbelieve that Manson did what Wood is reporting? Doesn't he seem the type given the character he's built and portrayed over the years? Not that that means 100% he's guilty or anything, but jeez, it aint a bit of a surprise to me.

FETCHER. 03-23-2022 07:26 AM

I can’t say I was surprised either.

Good question. I have heard some of his fans say they don’t 100% believe it so was curious if it was a common thought or not. I think Manson is truly ****ed up and warped but I still like some of his music.

rubber soul 03-23-2022 07:39 AM

All I know about Marilyn Manson outside of his music and videos is a thoughtful interview he gave to Michael Moore in Bowling For Columbine. Of course, you never really know someone in real life. I mean, look at how many times we have been burned by celebrities we thought we knew in the past twenty years alone.

If I was a big Marilyn Manson fan, I'd probably, at least initially, be in denial about the veracity of the claims too. Otherwise, I'd have to accept that this guy who's music I've listened to and lionized is actually a piece of ****. The only album of his I've ever really liked is Antichrist Superstar.

I try not to pay too close attention to musicians' personal lives, as it's often pretty gross - especially rock stars. The amount of them that have ****ed around with underage girls is just disgusting.

Queen Boo 03-26-2022 04:00 AM

Marilyn Manson isn't exactly hip with the kids anymore, his heyday was the 90s, all those spooky kids are pushing 40 now.

Mindy 03-26-2022 02:41 PM

hes a weirdo fer sure
