I don't think it is necessarily fair to be placing the blame on one artist for the stupidity of some of his fans. Manson may be a very creepy peson, and I may not like his music very much (if I ever got past the appearance, I may even listen to some of his music one day besides "Beautiful People" and covers -le sigh-, oh the woes of being repulsed by freakishness)
Regardless, I read his article about the Doors in the Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Artists, and I have to conclude that he sounds like a highly intelligent person with a mind that may be undervalued by the general public due to his image. Don't say that Manson is the cause of stupidity in his fans, that would be like saying that Megadeth's "A Tout Le Monde" is the cause of all suicides since Youthanasia was released.

Manson should have called it a day after all the publicity he got when "Antichrist Superstar" was released. I think anybody here who was around and old enough to know what was going on with him will remember just how much he did what he set out to do. I remember him getting banned from playing around here, record stores asking for ID to prove you were at least 16 to buy his records and the rumors. He was at his peak at that time, and he laughed all the way to the bank over it all.
"Portrait of an An American Family" and "Antichrist Superstar" were both great records. "Smells Like Children" was a good remix album with a few covers, I remember having the original version bootleg and the released version.. But, after Antichrist Superstar he took a turn into onto predictability street and never evolved past that and just rode the coat tails of his infamous days, making albums that got progressively more uninspired and awful. In order to be truly shocking in the world of shock rock, one has to be able to evolve with the times and keep on figuring out new ways to be shocking, you can not shock people once they know your act and are 3 steps ahead of you at all times. So to me that is the problem with Manson after Antichrist Superstar, just kept doing the same over and over and over, and it became predictable and boring. No evolution, just the same act. Which is why he is no longer relevant really. He will always have those infamous years he will be remembered for, but now he is just a washed up joke.
