You could make that argument, but considering that a few posts ago you seemed to be arguing that the death of glam metal meant the death of metal in general, you'd then be kind of undermining your own argument.

I was a big fan during his early years. Nowadays, I can only tolerate Mechanical Animals, and a few tracks off of Smells Like Children. The rest is just obnoxious.

Was glam/hair metal not the predominant form of mainstream metal in the 80's? When that scene ended, didn't people write off metal as the commercial cash cow that it had been in the previous decade?

It is generally accepted that metal hit a low point in mainstream popularity in the US after glam metal ended, despite the success of Metallica. That is how the term "New Wave of American Heavy Metal" came about. It kind of started with Pantera in the early nineties, but really took off in the late nineties with nu metal acts and that mainstream momentum has continued to grow with many different genres (especially melodic metalcore).

Mechanical Animals, Antichrist Superstar and Holy Wood are good albums, to this day I'd still happily listen to songs like The Nobodies and Tourniquet.

I used to be quite obsessed with his Sweet Dreams cover as a 15 year old too.
