I'll say that I gave Pearl Jam thier one vote. And this is for a couple reasons.
To me, they had the skill, the passion and the topical message that made liking them have some purpose. They championed ideas and frankly, bands with opinions matter a little more to me. Theres alot of people on here who are appauled by them and I jsut don't know why. Songs like "why go home" "go" "given to fly" and "courderoy" are probably some of the most impassioned songs I've heard from any band. I don't mind that you don't like them, but to react to them as if their The Whirlwind Heat or Crazytown just isn't fair and you know it. Pretty decent solos, soild vocals, meaningful lyrics, and a dedication to the fan base that rivals any band live or dead. Why Pearl Jam doesn't sit well in the mouths of Brits is beyond me, but the ones that show up here seem to have an affinty toward pop more than rock. Fair enough, but to discredit a band that makes so many people react is a band you should **** on because you personally don't like it. And to the one guy who said Ten and Vitalogy were good but failed to mention Vs., which was better than both aforementioned, well, I don't know where you get off sir, I just don't. |

You have to understand in the mid 90s Britain wanted to party after being so bloody miserable for over a decade, and bands like Pearl Jam and the whole grunge hangover from the US just didn`t fit the bill. Don`t take it personally , it took the US over a decade to get The Smiths & The Cure , maybe in a decade people will be saying 'wow Pearl Jam are an awesome band , Yeald is the best album ever made , how DID we miss this' |
Fair enough except for the well cloaked stab at the US. I don't really recall the Cure and the Smiths begin as well respected here as say mid-80's crap like Jackson and Madonna.
The only huge 80's musician I will give respect to is Prince. And Neither of those three were especially depressed. Aside from that we had super happy, good ol' boy Hair Metal. So to assume we still needed our depression isn't exactly on the mark. I'll accept not caring to a degree, but to say "oh god no" in lieu of "too boring" doesn't say to me lack of affection. I think Radiohead are too spacy most of the time, but I don't disregard them as a great group who can throw down when they want. I don't see why people can't go "god I hate them, but they do have talent." |
^ Eddie Vedder is still one of my favourite vocalists. Stone Gossard's rythem in Dissident is a favourite of mine also.

Kyuss are the coolest but they weren't big. So, unfortunately, they don't really count.
