I'm not really sure why they recorded Into the Void. It's a Sabbath classic and Homme has stated repeatedly that he never listened to Sabbath. Maybe John Garcia or Scott Reeder wanted it in, I dunno.

i heard into the void was a contractual / filler deal (same as the split ep itself). there had been so many comparisons made between the bands the guys in kyuss finally just said eff it and recorded a cover. ever notice the ridiculous similarities between the solo on the ItV cover and 'whitewater' (from sky valley)?

I imagine you'll get a kick out of this. I was looking through the QOTSA forums and somebody reposted (copied and posted) an article they had in some magazine about the making of Welcome to Sky Valley. It's actually pretty cool. 1993: A Desert Odyssey - Rekords Rekords Forum

nice, thanks for that link
you happen to know anything about what happened with 'man's ruin records' after the old man who ran it died? it's the label that put out the first few desert sessions and the QOTSA s/t. now that the old man is gone all those legal rights are stuck in limbo, which makes it REALLY freaking hard to find a new copy of that s/t for sale anywhere. |

after all these kyuss-related bands being listed, i was surprised to see that no one mentioned brant bjork. he drummed for kyuss and fu manchu and now he plays guitar and writes incredible songs and jams. brant bjork is the bob marley of rock n' roll, as those running stonerrock.com like to say. going to a gig of his will be the highlight of your year

Brant's had a very long and interesting career. I thought CHE "Sounds of Liberation" was one of the better post-Kyuss projects.
