Putting together Third Wave Ska playlist
 

Hey. Can anyone recommend me some third wave ska that isn't as mainstream as Streetlight Manifesto or Reel Big Fish. I wanna dig around in this sub-genre more but I don't know where to start. Mustard Plug isn't bad either. Any albums you suggest?

How about some Flaming Tsunamis?

They are without a doubt different then most ska I've heard before. Very hardcore punk orientated ska. Raw screams followed up by jazzy horns is a pretty cool collab. Thanks. Also just found out about The Arrogant Sons of Bitches. They are pretty good as well

Killer stuff! The vocals are a bit harsh, but that friggin band behind it is tight.

I love Mustard Plug.

Maybe a bit too "big", but The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are awesome too. And Goldfinger, though they lean a bit more towards punk, but their "Hangups" album has got a lot of horns and ska throughout.

Flaming Tsunamis are quality.

After seeing this post I went and listened to my old MU330 stuff, mustard plug, etc. It really takes me back! Still love it. Great thread!

The Aquabat's early stuff (The Return of the Aquabats, Fury of the Aquabats, The Aquabats vs The Floating Eye of Death! and Myths, Legends and other Amazing Adventures, Vol. 2)

Be Like Max (A little curse-ridden, but still good Ska Punk imo. Kind of pop-punky in terms of guitar tones, but I'd still give it a chance)

The Holophonics (They've done a lot of covers of mainstream pop tunes which are quite nice if you'd like to start there.)

Goldfinger is pretty great, lots of people into Less than Jake, not my jam tough, I like my ska funky like Sublime XD

The entire album of Hey Brotha Can you spare some Ska is an offbeat third wave ska playlist, which starts out with a funky jazz remix.... *shrug*

It's third wave ska, so how has nobody suggested anything from No Doubt's debut album?

I feel like when you're talking about ska that's one of those unspoken ones everyone knows about.

So knowing No Doubt as they were mostly from Don't Speak onwards and catching some of their Third Wave Ska feel from a few songs after befor they got away from that sound. I never listened to the their debut album ....or any album tbh.

Well I am listening to it right and it is pretty ****ing weird and pretty ****ing awesome as well!
