where is desmond dekker in this conversation?
and i love jimmy cliff so much and many rivers to cross was genius as was all his contributions to the harder they come but bob revolutionized reggae and made it important on a level jimmy never could. but desmond was first so..

I don't think the question was about who was first, it was who do you like more, Jimmy or Bob? Not Desmond or Lee or Tubby or Toots. Not who started reggae or who was the most influential to it. Just who do you like more, Jimmy or Bob?

Check out Sly and Robbie solo stuff too. They are Reggaes equivalent to Motowns Funk brothers. They are drummer and bassist respectively. They also were the backing section for Black Uhuru (another great band).

Bob Marley is one of the greatest artists of all time, there's no question it's him. The rebel spirit/sadness of some of his songs is astounding, You usually don't notice these things until the second time around. Take "Buffalo Soldier" for instance. I didn't think much of it at first, but I listened to it again, and more closely, it's now one of my favorite Marley songs.
