I really adore his newly changed name, but his love for Obama is obnoxious and stupid.

Reggae doesn't really need middle-class white America's validation by way of being played in the background of top-rated MTV reality shows and front page Reddit AMAs. It's still rather popular in Jamaica.

I believe he will do good things for reggae. Hopefully teens will start listening to reggae instead of rap. It talks about peace and love

This reminds me of when Joaquin Phoenix got drunk and decided to be a rapper for 15 minutes. I grew up on reggae music and Snoop Dog will never be a reggae singer because he's not a righteous rastaman. There's a lot more to being a reggae singer than hiring Major Lazer as a producer and cutting 12 songs with a one drop reggae tempo.

To those who make fun of Haile Selassie I... He's a better role model to black youth than Jesus, Buddha or Mohammed ever were. Most white folks think worshipping Selassie is a nutty thing, but I think it's even nuttier for white folks to go out a start wars in the name of Jesus Christ, an anti-government pacifist who lived 2000 years ago. The only war Emperor Selassie ever fought in was a war defend his nation from an invasion by Italian fascists.

Long before Martin Luther King, Selassie spoke out against racism. From a 1943 speech by Selassie:
Quote:

That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained and until the ignoble but unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique, and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and goodwill; until all Africans stand and speak as free human beings, equal in the eyes of the Almighty; until that day, the African continent shall not know peace. We Africans will fight if necessary and we know that we shall win as we are confident in the victory of good over evil.
It sounds a lot like Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech, only Selassie delivered the speech twenty years prior to the rise of Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement in the United States.
