Lee "Scratch" Perry

Why?

Credited for one of the founders of Dub Reggae. Started Black Ark studios in 1973 in his backyard (pretty sure its still in his backyard). Produced bob marley and the wailers there, the congos, max romeo, and several other big hitters.

He is most famous as a producer, but as he got older he started making his own music. He makes the most weird, ecclectic reggae and dub music you can find. Somehow, I LOVE it. His lyrics sometimes make no sense and are rambling with random sexual innuendos thrown in, sometimes very beautiful, sometimes nonsensical, sometimes funny.

He is 84 and still touring (I saw him live a few years back), still releasing TONS of new tracks constantly, and very active on twitter. The guy is a ****ing legend. I am a self-proclaimed super-fan and I just saw he has some albums i missed. He released 4 ****ing albums last year. I think he is in overdrive before he kicks it or loses his abilities.

Some good tracks to check:
Whitefish and Cornbread (really old)
Disco devil (old)

Newer stuff:
Having a Party
Medusa Dub
Scratch Is Alive
