They just remind me too much of Sublime. I think I owned "Closer to the Sun" at some point... gave it a listen and never bothered to go back to it. Downloaded the "Live and Direct" album at one point, thought their cover of "Used to Love Her" was mildly interesting, but it all just came across as half assed Sublime worship.
Just boring Dub and Raggae/Ska stuff that is like "Oh yeah, I smoke pot". Lazy, half assed and boring band.

Noone will ever compare to or eclipse Sublimes legacy, but Stoopid really did a good job at keeping what Bradley started alive and was able to do their own thing in the process.

I stand by my comments, and feel they are not just similar, but identical to Sublime. Even the vocals are similar. Don't get me wrong, I can tell the two apart, but that's because I've been listening to Sublime for a very long time. On first listen though, I could easily see someone confusing the two. I'll also go back to what I said about their image and marketing, it's all very similar to Sublime, if not identical.
It's also the reason why every time Slightly Stoopid is mentioned, Sublime inevitably ends up part of the conversation as well. Can you say you've ever talked about Slightly Stoopid without their similarity to Sublime becoming the main subject of the conversation? What are we doing right now? Haha. It's like the same exact formula. I guess they can't be IDENTICAL, though, but still come on. Really, come on. |

I love Sublime, they are easily one of my biggest inspirations musically. Yeah I won't doubt that they are similar in many ways, there's no doubt that Slightly Stoopid wouldn't exist without them. I just think they also a lot of songs with their own style and sounds that Sublime didn't have. Ive been listening to Sublime for a while too mang, and I get your point but I just respectfully disagree that they're identical.
