Favourite ska bands? (quote)

First two: Pound For The Sound and Civil Disobediencies. DO NOT get their latest Wind Up Toys. They have changed their sound almost becoming metal. Damn shame. The vocalist is also their saxophonist.

And Goldfinger what should I go for?

I dunno' I'm pretty partial to the late 80's NY scene like the Toasters, the Slackers, and Scofflaws. Op Ivy is Fruckin' Great, but, I hate to be a genre geek, they're more punk than anything. Of course Skatalites are about it for jamaican ska. Not much of a two-tone or 3rd wave fan. I'm just pretty much into the whole rocksteady thing which doesn't get quite as monotonous.

I like The Toasters but I only have one album of theirs. The Slackers and Scofflaws are new to me (cough cough). However a lot of the Punk/ska stuff can sound pretty samey after a while. Have you ever heard Flamimg Tsunamis? They are a hardcore band who then go off into Ska tangents but can do both genres well and respectfully. I am very surprised that you dont like 2-tone. The Specials PWN.

Well there are bands/styles that you don't like and then there are those that you deeply respect and appreciate, but just aren't your thing, and for me The Specials and 2-tone fall into the latter category.

yes, and since they are pretty much the only ska band i have ever listen to/heard of, they would be my favorite... but i am going to check out some of the other bands that were mentioned.

My favorite ska bands would have to be The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Attaboy Skip, The Planet Smashers, Save Ferris, Madness, The Specials... gah! There's just too many to list.

Chris Murray, Former vocalist for King Django, has some great solo stuff, and he refuses to do hi tech productions. all his albums are recorded by himself with a 4-track.
