Figured I should start a thread on these guys seeing they are the ONLY good music ever to come out of Guernsey.

A nice mix of Electronica , Reggae , Dub & Dance with even a bit of Folk splashed in , especially on their Second Light album (which i`m currently uploading if anyone wants to check them out).
They were quite popular on the festival circuit during the 90s and were heavily played by John Peel.

If the song Little Britain sounds familiar to you it`s because ITV used it on their football coverage for years.

I thought I would revive this as I went to see them last night. Could'nt have been more than 500 people but damn it was a great night and my first ever Reggae gig.

What I like so much about them is the assimilation of many genres yet it all sounds so effortless. Their new album is due out next year and judging by the tracks they played last night, it should be another belter. A couple of them also DJ and I highly recommend 'Beatz and Bobz Vol 4 by them.

Not heard of these guys before - I'm impressed. If I hadn't maxed out my disc-space last week I'd be looking for some downloads. As you say, they seem to effortlessly be able to assimilate different genres into their sound. Must have been a great show.

For those who don't know, Dreadzone is a product of former Big Audio Dynamite members, minus Mick Jones. Good stuff though. I got a free song of theirs from their website a while back, not sure if it's still available.

Almost 8 months after making the above comment I've finally got a couple of their albums, those being Biological Radio and Once Upon a Time. Both are amazing albums, mixing dub, dancehall and roots (becoming an almost all-encompassing form of reggae at its finest then) with elements of progressive house. Couldn't recommend them enough - fantastic stuff.

Seeing these babies on Thursday for the 2nd time in less than a year and can't wait. They put on a great live show and for fact fans out there, they were formed out of the ashes of Big Audio Dynamite. Watch this space for a very special gig review coming soon!

Wierd - I was thinking of them last night as I lay listening to Easy-Star All Stars "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Dub Band" - I really enjoyed "Little Britain" when it came out, and Dreadzone were at the top of my reggae pile for quite a while.

...then up pops a thread about them - can't wait for the gig review - if they're really as good as they were what 15 years ago then I must see them again :D

It's coming soon enough. I'd have done it earlier (the gig was on Thursday night), but I've been sidetracked by a lot of things - work, illness, general laziness etc. Tomorrow's my day off though and I'm more or less fit and working again, so watch this space!

All I will say is that whether people like this sort of music or not, the energy and friendliness in that place is something any live music fan should experience at least once. Sometimes it's not about attitude or musical dexterity. It is all about having a good time and forgetting about life for an hour or two. They were simply brilliant once again and a great example of a hard working band who don't conform to the masses and still deliver a night of great music.
