The way he did it was a huge influence on the style and sound of pop-rap at the time. Like Vanilla Ice. Who also coincidentally reinvented himself in the legacy of ICP. |
Quote:
He's obviously more influenced by freestyle culture and rappers like Esham, but there's some Pac in there. It's actually probably hard to find a rapper that doesn't have at least a little bit of Pac. |
Yeh vanilla ice is not respected at all in hip hop. Even more than Hammer, he's seen as a pop oriented vulture that exploited the rising trend of hip hop to be a pop icon

On Ice, you're completely right. You forget that he's also a 1 hit wonder. Unfortunately Vanilla Ice is also a legend. Maybe a pioneer of what we call today 'meme rap'. Maybe you can credit that to Hammer too, actually. |

Edit: Nope, peggy calls himself 2Pac in a song so he at least has a sliver of Pac in there. |
Hammer was more than a one hit wonder but his actual influence on rap music is hard to gauge. He definitely mostly made a spash as a pop icon.

Him and biggie are basically there 2 most influential rappers.
They defined the modern bad boy/gangster image that is the default fir most modern, mainstream fans |

And the only thing I can remember was something about Denzel Curry not being what you thought he was and saying that you got mad because you take pride in your southern hip hop knowledge. Quote:
But that stereotype kind of got a rock thrown at it after Kanye West who's probably just as, if not more, undeniably influential on the state of hip hop today. The image portrayed in hip hop now is more so influenced by 36 Mafia than 2Pac. Dark, moody southern drug loving depressed kids using Satanic imagery. |

Nah, saying that white people who want to live vicariously through black culture care more about Tupac than actual black people now is triggering JWB.

You only just discovered the Ramones. Go away.

I'd like an option for "Tupac is not corny, but most of his fans today are".

Haaa. I never got Neutral Milk Hotel. People keep trying to get me to listen.

But who cares - Pitchfork won't clue you in to real modern classics like this anyway. |
hell no, I know Neutral Milk Hotel has obnoxious fans, but the music is absolutely unassailable

Pavement is very danceable, that's true, but who needs to dance to NMH if you can cry your eyes out to it

If I actually want to feel sadness and nostalgia, I'll throw on something from Beach House...or Arcade Fire...or Low. |
