As far as lyrical ability ICP are not far off from classic legends like Slick Rick. They take so much of their inspiration from that era of hip hop especially the grandiose gimmicks and story telling. The only difference being they are much more cartoony and goofy.
I'll be perfectly honest, this is the first ICP song I can say that I actually like. The beat is mainly what's good about it tbh. The rapping is still subpar but it doesn't ruin the song.

Pac was never known as being that kind of rapper. He was simple in his rhyme schemes but he more than made up for it in cadence, delivery and passion.
And his persona was actually deeper than some middle school potential school shooter's wet dream.

When Jay-Z, the guy that prides himself in his business shows respect for your marketing and how long your career has lasted it's definitely respect. He didn't have to say ****. Why would he care about staying on good terms with ICP?
When they are getting called legends by notable hip hop publications and figures like Ebro I think that counts as respect. They aren't completely embraced or as loved but they are absolutely respected especially in the newer generation. People started to notice how long they've stayed, how much they pay their dues and the grind they've had.
nah... Longevity and marketing sounds like exactly the kind of compliment Jay z would pay to ICP. That's not respect in the field of hip hop. That's purely business.
Honestly man, I know you live in a state with like 3 black people in it, but if you go to any hood in america 2pac has some haters but he also gets tons of respect. He's undeniably one of the biggest and most influential rappers ever. Where as with ICP, they either don't know who that is our they are largely seen as a joke.
they put in a lot of effort in innovating their sound through the years
and they for sure are a pair of inherently musical brothers
but in the early days, unfiltered pick up and play

Honestly maybe some good music is effortless.. but I think most isn't. I think if nothing else you need some level of passion to really make good art and passion will generally cause you to take it somewhat seriously and put in some effort.
My ex once tried to explain to me how someone in one of her classes who painted the entire canvas red had actually done something brilliant cause of what that red canvas symbolized.
I think you're allowed to call anything made by human expression "art", just as long as I'm allowed to critique it and most likely call it "pretentious drivel that resembles a turd".
