Default Is altrap dead or is mainstream(ish) rap alt rap now?

Its been a long time since something so underground as like clouddead or eyedea or old sole **** has impressed me. That era was really good with experimental sounds and lyrics and the shows were small like 50 or less people and really good. I remember seeing sole and awol one play in a basement in iowa. I miss that **** but i search for artists like this and find nothing.

On the other hand artists like Earl, Death Grips, Brockhampton are putting out wildly experimental **** to huge audiences. Some of the new Earl **** is almost like odd nosdam weird and out there.

Am I looking in the wrong places?

Discuss.

What's happening now is the lines between mainstream and underground are so blurred at this point that it's just plain superficial to ever care about it anymore.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Art Is Dead. Buy My ****.

I'm generally blissfully unaware of artists' level of popularity. Is Earl really mainstream? Was Aesop Rock underground in the aughts?
