XXL Freshman 2017
 

Thread for thoughts on this year's XXL Freshman picks.


So last year most of them were 'mumble rappers' and the freestyle's ****ing sucked. Desiigner's was my favorite of that one because of how hard, dark and drenched in passion and emotion it was. But it wasn't really rap. It wasn't bars. It was just art.

This year is MUCH better than last year's. Still waiting on the ciphers, but most of the freestyles were dope. Of course corny mother ****ers have already started hating on the cover before even hearing anything.

There are maybe one or two freestyle's I thought were trash. But most of them killed it. Stand out being Amine who show cased a lot of what he can do in it. After hearing that and a lot of other's that were rapping and singing I was hoping I'd get something like that from XXXTentacion who I was most hyped about. He gave a half assed few bars. Probably my personal favorite, because of how hype it got me, but it definitely wasn't the best.

This guy had bars. He did what people want from this type of thing.



This guy was dope. Compared to Drake, but I feel he's more like Childish Gambino.

He killed it.



It was alright, but still my personal favorite, despite him making the faux pas of calling Jesus Arab to describe his complexion. Because being middle eastern he wouldn't have been white, he would have been brown and even the bible describes him having bronze skin which isn't quite black.

there is actually 0 rappers in that class worth listening to. XXL is a joke, they class is constantly full lf industry plugs and trend hoppers. the year XXX or Playboi Carti are actually worth a spot on any type of list is the year hip-hop dies a slow death.

so yeah

Another garbage freshman year. I am so not looking gorward to those cyphers.

Amine is decent and the chick are decent but the rest is trash.

Most of that **** sounded like a high school poetry slam

And that's very bad

I watched one awhile back that had 21 Savage Kodak Black Lil Yachty and a couple others taking turns. They had a DJ put damn it was much better than this ****. If you can't freestyle don't **** with it.

Those are the cyphers with the DJ and this class had theirs released recently. I will post them in a sec.

I didn't really like the ciphers.

Edit: Except for of course XXXTentacion, but damn I wish he'd put that much effort into his stage performances.

I'm not going to lie the XXL freestyles are getting more and more lackluster every year. I like a few of the artists on the list, but the freestyles they did were pretty bad.
