i think mumble rap is kind of loose as a descriptor. if it's only attributed to rappers with incoherent lyrics (because they're "mumbling")--and that's the only requisite i've known the genre to have, so correct me if i'm misguided about this--then it's confusing on how that incoherence is gauged. i'd guess young thug, lil uzi vert, lil yachty, and famous dex are shoe-ins, but i never really thought of the likes of denzel curry, travis scott, and kodak black incomprehensible enough to be frequent additions to mumble rap playlists as much as they are. are a chunk of drill rappers lumped into the genre by extension?


tiller seems like a weird inclusion in that list, unless i'm missing something in his discography

It's an interesting comparison. I like future, migos, young thug, etc. They're not bad rappers at all they are just taking an innovative approach. The subject matter is admittedly lacking. But really it's more about the style and sound for those artists than for trying to be deep or provoke deep thinking. It's basically party music. I don't really like punk rock though.
