i think mumble rap is kind of loose as a descriptor. if it's only attributed to rappers with incoherent lyrics (because they're "mumbling")--and that's the only requisite i've known the genre to have, so correct me if i'm misguided about this--then it's confusing on how that incoherence is gauged. i'd guess young thug, lil uzi vert, lil yachty, and famous dex are shoe-ins, but i never really thought of the likes of denzel curry, travis scott, and kodak black incomprehensible enough to be frequent additions to mumble rap playlists as much as they are. are a chunk of drill rappers lumped into the genre by extension?

tiller seems like a weird inclusion in that list, unless i'm missing something in his discography

It's that autotune sing song style of trap. Why I include Travi$ Scott even though he doesn't really mumble. People will lump him in anyways. Also forgetting Desiigner. He's like the most mumbly.

it was definitely just a short list, but desiigner's panda doesn't use autotune, does it (i can't attest for the rest of his output)? i don't know if i'd consider autotune a necessity. i get that it's recurrent though (soda boi, uzi vert, yachty, etc)

Trap Soul hangs its hat on the same hook, imo.

A lot of modern trap artists like to use those really airy witch house beats.
You nailed it. Thanks.

But really it's more about the style and sound for those artists than for trying to be deep or provoke deep thinking. It's basically party music. I don't really like punk rock though.

I mean I dig the idea of inclusion of ideas different from repackaged backpacker **** influencing the evolution of hip hop.
