help me get into grime
i like a lot of the random **** i've heard on youtube but im clueless as to who these people are or what their standout albums are. i've never made any attempt to get into it really, it's always been something that exists over there and has nothing to do with me or anyone i know. but lately like i said i've been listening to some of the **** on youtube.
i've already got dizzee's first album i don't need a whole history lesson tbh, don't give me older **** just for context if it's not top notch. just tell me whatever your favorite albums/mixtapes are i know christian will have something for me. anyone else who likes grime is welcome as well. |
I'll send you some PM's in a bit pal cos you will struggle to find a lot of this stuff.
Post the names of the artists and tracks you like and I'll recommend some stuff I think you'd enjoy based off of those. Must listen albums are: Ruff Sqwad - Guns & Roses vol. 1 & 2 Neckle Camp - Straight Necklin' Wiley - Treddin on Thin Ice The best Grime is on sets though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq6H3JpT5C8 Try that. As I say depends what exactly you're looking for. |
Oh and Dizzee's second album 'Showtime' is worth a listen if you're a fan of BIDC. More of the same really, great album.
|
I'm no expert but this is a tune
|
^ Best track of 2014 mate.
The Eskimo sound  |
good ****... i liked both of those videos
this is the **** i have been listening to: |
All of those tracks you posted are from the Boy Better Know label or people who are affiliated with that.
Both of JME's albums (Famous? & Blam) might be of interest to you, plus Skepta's debut album named 'Greatest Hits'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVdfZRdNaDo I'd recommend OG Season 1 from what you posted. I don't have a link but I bought the CD when it came out so if you want it I'll rip it and upload it for you then send you a PM. If you liked P Money on that set, then I'll rip Money Over Everyone & Money Is Power for you. And then send a PM obviously m8. If you want any of the albums I've mentioned let me know and I'll rip them and PM them. If you liked that Shorty track, Youtube - Shorty Million Voices. |
lol @ him naming his debut "greatest hits"
|
I've found a grime EP released this year that I like a lot:
|
Yeah it's decent, that's that shit I do want to hear.
What in particular did you like about this? The production? |
Production is great, but I also enjoy the rapping. He's not overbearing or annoying. Just good work.

Grime is a truly interesting form of rap and seeing people (esp Americans - me included) navigate/try to understand it is a real interesting circumstance of our rap times.
I'm always looking for good things here - always was fascinated by the old Dizzee Rascal and Wiley stuff but generally don't much like what I hear (same goes for all rap - that is I'm interested but don't like much) I like this man Kemo. What yall think? |
#Deece but more like Road Rap than Grime, compare it to the tracks Goof posted on the first page.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2tzEd6tGLo Try this. |
Big narstie
Look up Big Narstie on YouTube...
|
I've got the Grime 2.0 4LP set mint & sealed from Big Dada Records. Got it as a gift but I'm not really into it. If anyone from the thread would enjoy it, let me know. I've got it listed on Discogs for $21. PM for a link.
I'd love to find it a home where it'd be played and enjoyed. http://i.imgur.com/Utj33B2.jpg |

This is OK, decent insight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k0AhmLYQl8 This is cool as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLWtVMsbEQA This is Wiley's little brother, exact same mannerisms and everything. |
Maniac is out of prison and is back.
https://soundcloud.com/rinsefm/maxst...prod-by-maniac Beat is too sick lol. |
For the life of me I can't get into grime either, outside of the rapping it's a completely different genre than American hip hop.
I don't be to be insulting but it almost sounds like second grade ragga, except your rapping over European techno beats. Not that I can't be won over, I'm just not hearing anything songs that are worth playing repeatedly. |

https://soundcloud.com/tremission/tr...k-hill-prod-by Wiley's last album had some Americans on there also, 'Snakes & Ladders', that was a good album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1J_-4qG3KY These will probably be easier for you to get into. |
First off before I respond what the F)ck is up with John Wilkes Booth! Deactivates his account, than activates than deactivates????
I think he should just come back under a new username. Hard to warm up to a guy with a name like that, you mind as well just have a KKK hood as your logo. Good guy otherwise. Quote:
Its not the rapping that turns me off, that part I like, it's the electronic beats that turn me off. I find a lot of it sounds too simple. It could be that I'm just getting old & can't get past my G-funk, but here is one of my favourite songs of all time!!! so if you can find stuff on par with this, than I'll be hooked |
Youtube posts arnt showing up on my screen anyone else having problems??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYgmsCBKmLM Electronic/simple sounding is actually the style for the most part, it's electronic dance music really, though recently (2008+) the beats have started to develop a bit more. Arguably merged with Hip-Hop tbh. Here is one of the classic Grime tracks that is quite Hip-Hop sounding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_1TTNeIZbw Maybe try OG Season 1, that is a very good album, basically Hip-Hop: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/og...-1/id283904848 If you have iTunes you can preview the tracks. Spoiler for tracks:
I like that track you posted, the only thing I've heard from him before is a verse on a 2Pac album (All Eyez On Me). |
Terra Firma Crew - Git Down
|
Where is Klashnekoff these days? Haven't heard from him in years.

I like the first track it's solid. It sounds pretty culturally rooted with the reggae beat to. I always wondered about that. Rap in America was always really culturally connected to the soul and funk music they grew up listening to, but grime often seems completely disconnected from the dancehall, ragga and reggae of previous generations. I'm assuming that its kids from West Indies decent that invented grime? The second track sounds like something I would have to let grow on me, and I like the song Mister Jip posted to, so I'm coming around, but I'm officially too old to be cool now, just so you know, lol. |
I can't even get into grime myself lol

Ps: Hobgoblin is a wicked beer. We get it on import here in Canada |
I have finally had a breakthrough in Grime, it took me awhile but genre seems to be in the zenith of its popularity and the stuff I am hearing is just fantastic music!!!
It's a new breath of life into the genre of hip hop, which I feel has been badly needed. It's too bad the record industry collapsed, otherwise some of these artists would probably be as big as Massive Attack and Portishead were in the 90's over here in the US (abliet different listening artists) Probably all well known names, but I love these tracks, I've been into Skepta for awhile now... Lady Leshurr is F'n talented, & hot, Grrrrrrr! I understand Stormzy has become quite big in the UK I have no idea who is rapping here, I just love the video when he lights the microphone on fire. Anyone else want to post some killer grime songs, please do!!! |
Lady Leshurr is the girl in my avi. She's cool.

I know she just signed one for her album so she's definitely moving in the right direction. She's doing well building her reputation and buzz but she needs to put out a full release that is a bit different to what other people have done. I hope she makes it, she deserves it more than anyone imo. |
@OtherGrimeProducers you can all stop now. The king is back and he's got some **** to get off his chest
