Why your favorite rapper sucks

i've done this on a few other rap forums so i figured i would try it here as well. the purpose of this thread is simple. post a rapper and i will do my best to **** on them.

no love / favoritism will be given to rappers i happen to enjoy, i will do my best to go for the throat with each response no matter what.

few things to keep in mind: i have to say something negative about any rapper posted so if my critique seems half assed then it probably is. if you come at me with random obscure rappers that i'm not familiar with then i can only do a quick once over of them, i can't sit there and try to digest their catalog.

also, since usually what ends up happening is people post too many rappers for me to **** on and i get tired and give up, i invite any others to come in this thread as well and help me **** on all these rappers.

pretty much any artist has flaws which can be attacked which is the purpose of this thread.

any takers?

I'll throw you a softball: MF DOOM.

Bonus points if you don't bring up pedophelia.

El-p

simplephysics 12-26-2014 06:46 PM

Doseone, should be easy to find something to **** on.

John Wilkes Booth 12-26-2014 06:57 PM

MF-Doom: raps like his mouth if full of marbles. maybe it's not his fault that he has such a dull voice but sometimes god just kicks you in your shiny ass face like that. he seems to go for flows that are really complicated and sort of off beat because that's how he sounds best. if he tried to strait spit it would sound terrible and that's why he can never rip a track. plus he's a pedophile.

John Wilkes Booth 12-26-2014 07:04 PM

El-P made fatastic damage... which is an example of a talented producer trying to branch out into rapping and failing hard. i mean half the songs on that album are the kind of **** i would use to teach a class called "how trendy white nerds took over underground hip hop and turned it into unlistenable garbage". he has picked his game up since then but people still repped him even for that ****ty ass album. underground fans are loyal as hell lol.

John Wilkes Booth 12-26-2014 07:11 PM

doseone... every song i'm finding of this guy he's singing. if he's a rapper he does a really good job at hiding it.

not really lol don't listen to dude like that. just when i was looking through his songs i was surprised to see he actually has even a basic ability to flow. really if it weren't for that i'd say el-p was probably one of the worst rappers i've ever heard. cause i remember when that **** came out and i was like man... what are you trying to do to my ears?i just love how el-p fans never want to admit that album is trash

Goofle 12-26-2014 07:22 PM

You have converted me. I've thrown his albums in a fire.

John Wilkes Booth 12-26-2014 07:27 PM

i can't speak on any of his other albums cause i honestly wrote him off after i heard fantastic voyage.. but yea that **** was terrible

What about the pedophilia, I've never heard about that. Unless your talking about the song The Mic. Explain ples...

CoNtrivedNiHilism 12-26-2014 10:14 PM

2 Pac, I have always thought him to be highly overrated, highly. But he was still better than most during his time.

Tech 9 is overrated, and he did that Metal/Rap album with the attitude that it hadn't been done like that before. L...O...L...

50 Cent is laughable, dude sounds like he has a sock in his mouth, or worse...

Lil Wayne gives me a headache and good lord, I do not get why so many people praise that guy as being so great. Do people that listen to Rap these days even know what a good Rap sounds like? Doesn't seem like a majority of people listening to the genre have the slightest idea...

Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. Personally, I don't think he's that bad. He's far from great, hovers somewhere between decent and average, yet I still think he could freestyle circles around everyone but 2 Pac on my list so far...

Eminem. I don't list this guy because he particularly sucks, not really. But he's overrated, almost as badly as 2 Pac, maybe. But let's all be honest with ourselves and each other. Eminem is an above average in the genre, and I think if 2 Pac were alive, Eminem would give the guy a pretty good run for his money...

Die Antwoord. To be honest, I have listened to some of this guy, and I sort of liked some of it for the comedy it had. But damn, this guy is sloppy. He's slowly climbing that ladder to being overrated because people like to give Rappers too much credit when most of them today are barely a cut above mediocre...

Well, that is my list of opinions on some of today's raved about Rap stars...

Frownland 12-27-2014 12:16 AM

Never got the appeal of Tupac and Die Antwoord.

Goofle 12-27-2014 05:26 AM

Just popping in to say Fantastic Damage is a brilliant album.

I'm surprised you don't like Die Antwoord. They're hit-or-miss but their best stuff is pretty off kilter and kind of on the experimental side. Their second album is worth a listen IMO.

Also, what's this about MF Doom being a pedo?

I know, my friend who introduced them to me was surprised too. 'But you love weird ****!' Musically it's good, I just don't really like the emceeing.

And the DOOM bit is a little theory that JWB has. Like he wears a comic book mask to attract kiddies into his van or something along those lines.

CoNtrivedNiHilism 12-27-2014 08:41 AM

Yeah, Die Antwoord is pretty out there, but yeah, some of his stuff is pretty good.

I'm not crazy about the guy's rapping but I really like the way the woman raps. She like a hip hop version of the singer from Daisy Chainsaw.

I know it's become the done internet thing in recent times to pretend to like really bad artists, but are we seriously defending this?

Janszoon 12-27-2014 11:31 AM

Man, if I had a nickle for every time I saw Manky accuse someone of "pretending" to have different tastes from his.

Chance the Rapper

James 12-27-2014 01:36 PM

I like Die Antwoord. I think they're hilarious. Must be putting it on to some extent. Musically they're great and the rapping is technically bad but improved by the comical lyricism and delivery.
Anyway Drake's my favourite rapper. Shoot.

Knew this was coming. I think these jokes are hilarious, but getting rid of the weird veil of faux masculinity that hangs over the genre can't be bad.

DwnWthVwls 12-27-2014 02:39 PM

Is Drake really your favorite rapper? Why?

CoNtrivedNiHilism 12-27-2014 02:58 PM

Die Antwoord is hilarious, and I have to think that to some extent, he and his band mate must not take their self all too seriously either. Their music is comical. We're not saying Die Antwoord is this amazing group, because they're not. But they're also not bad either, they're fairly decent to good.

And I as well, will ask why Drake is your favorite, James? Because he's another that I feel is horribly overrated.

And don't get me started on Kanye. Dude may have some good music, but he's not that great.

I've never actually heard of Die Atwood before, as for Drake I heard a few of his songs and got bored. As for Kanye I don't really know where to start, I've heard great things abo it the guy, I've heard really crappy things about him as well, so I haven't jumped into that pool of work yet.

You need to expose yourself to Die Antwoord. If you have a sense of humor, you will love it.

And so, Kanye has some good music, but he's got this ego about him that he's the gift to the world in regard to Rap or Hip Hop. I like some of his music, have plenty of it on my computer. But I am so over all the praise he gets when so much of it is undeserved. Anyway. I'd say go ahead and check out Kanye and his music, he's got some good stuff.

I just think he's the most charismatic rapper in it right now. Amazing production. Personal, honest lyrics on one hand. Banging party tunes on the other. Take Care and Nothing Was The Same are up there with the albums I've listened to the most.

Could be Kanye or Lil Wayne. But there are a number of suspects. I always get the sense Drake loves his friends more than they love him.

If it is Kanye she's referring to then yeah I'm a big fan. New Kanye and New Drake are probably up there in my most anticipated albums, just behind The Wrens. Who are one of my favourite bands. But I think Kanye's ego gets in the way so much that it taints him more than Drake. I think in overly lyrical hip-hop, honesty and charisma are two of the most important factors. Kanye's a genius but he doesn't connect as much. Drake is just on absolute top form.

I honestly think Die Antwoord are just characters. It's masterful.
As for Drake being my favourite rapper I hope I have clarified. I think Hold On We're Going Home was by far the best single last year.

I'm a big fan of fairly funny music so I'm sure I'll like Die Antwood, if it's anything like PINK GUY in the slightest I'll probably love it.

As for Kanye I'll check some of his stuff out, anything by him that you'd suggest going into first, I was thinking Yeezus, but I don't know if that's a good place to start or not.

I think My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the best starter. It's just such a huge and ambitious effort that I think will go down as a serious classic.

Yeah, they definitely don't take themselves seriously at all. It's hard to imagine anyone could think otherwise.

Ja my comment was a joke about Kanyes ego. I think he has good music sometimes, but my god is he a horrible rapper.

John Wilkes Booth 12-27-2014 06:28 PM

damn i should've made this thread at the end of the weekend rather than the start of the weekend since i work weekends. anyway..

dmx: pretends to be spiritual and principled while consistently engaging in crackhead type behavior. and this affects his music as well. if dmx had stuck to his guns and kept making the type of music he had originally made he might have made some sort of impact on hip hop. instead he conformed to whatever the newest production style was and did his damndest to make club tracks but turns out there's not much of a market for psychopathic sporadically barking cokeheads in the hip hop club scene.basically he's a sell out and a media whore, not to mention another mediocre actor that plays himself in every movie.
