Its probably been said already in every single reply to this... But yeah, dude, rap is considered music. Its a music wherein the vocals set the stage instead of instruments/sounds/whatevatheyusing, and some people just can't appreciate that. But it doesn't negate it being music.

I classify rap as rhythmic chanting. This does not mean I do not like any rap, but am reluctant to call it music. |

I'm sure this has been said as well, but what about rappers who perform with live bands/instruments? Assuming you have a valid argument, which you don't, how could you argue the use of tangible instruments producing melodies and the like as non music?
Edit: read the OP, so I guess just disregard this. They obviously have not ventured enough into the genre to know anything about what they are arguing against, though.
