How has Hip-hop as a genre evolved over the years?
 

Did artists such as 2pac have something relevant to say compared to artists such as Lil Wayne in this current generation?

This is such a tired question.

I barely listen to any hip-hop and still find artists with something to say. Not that that's any better or worse than anything less 'meaningful'. Plus, I'm sure the 90s and 80s had their Lil Wayne's and such.

The 90s had their Lil Waynes. His name was Lil Wayne, and he sucked back then too. He just didn't blow up until early 2000s.

You might remember a little song by the name of "Back That Azz Up". The beginning of the end of traditional hiphop.

And let's not forget the profound insights of "Baby Got Back".

My critique is based entirely on delivery not subject matter. Cash Money and No Limit basically started the entire movement that pushed mainstream HipHop into the state its in today, which has it's ups and downs. While I don't personally appreciate it I recognize that it made the genre more palatable to a wider audience.

Ah, ok. I thought it was still about the OP's question about having something profound to say.
The video seems to be banned in Germany because of copyright issues, so I don't know what hideous music awaits there. Perhaps it's for the best.

It hasn't as far as I've heard. Most of the things that most of the bands are doing are things that were happening 25 years ago. Production has improved, but listen to something like the new Eminem next to some old NWA and it's basically the same thing.

Musically speaking, the only thing that has changed is technology. The ability to create different types of beats has been a massive game-changer in Hip Hop over the years.
