Young Fathers
 

Is anyone aware of these guys yet? None of my music friends seem to know about them, but "Get Up" is refreshingly good. That jarring dissonance, those sweet vocals, I'm downloading "Dead" right now as I speak. I just thought I'd create a thread in the meantime in hopes that someone else here listens to them.



Oh man, whatever that bassey dissonance is, it really gives me the tingles.

Edit: Already on my second listen through, I'm kinda hooked. I need to figure why I like this so much already, maybe it's the crunchy production, maybe it's the interesting use of instruments and samples, but dem vocals, holy sheeeeet. Also, War is fvking intense considering where some of these guys came from in the world.

are these guys still signed to anticon? i've only ever listened to tape one a bit before the re-release, but that was pretty great

Congrats to these dudes, they just won the Mercury Prize for Dead. well deserved.

My friend recommended these guys to me a few weeks ago. Listened to their latest (only?) album, and though I thought it was all right at the time, I can't remember anything about Young Fathers now. Guess they didn't make that big an impression on me.

This band capture Scotland more than most of their contemporaries. Nice to see a band offer a multicultural view of the country.
