Hip Hop and Samples..
I guess this is a game or something. Please post a hiphop song and the sample(s) used in it. I always get excited when I hear something and think "O **** that in "insert song here".
So I was at work yesterday listening to Gnarls Barkley Pandora station and I hear this: Moondog - Bird's Lament and I immediately get a smile, because Mazzi used this kick ass melody in a song I found recently. Mazi (SOUL Purpose) - Keep Movin Here's the instrumental for anyone interested: Mr Scruff - Get A Move On |
Miles Davis's Pharoah's Dance off of the infamous Bitches Brew. A.M. Breakups sampled a part of the intro on this Billy Woods track Sour Grapes. |
Escala - Palladio
sampled by Jedi Mind Tricks - On The Eve Of War |
Three Dog Night - An Old Fashioned Love Song
sampled by Grieves - Irreversible (ft Mr Lif) |
sampled by GZA - Shadowboxin and sampled by Wu Tang - Tearz rza is a genius and a great portal to old and obscure soul music. |
Good stuff, Frown.
Nice JWB.. I didn't know either of those samples, and I agree about the RZA. Not a fan of his raps but his production is on point. I hope some other people get involved this is great. The Alan Parsons Project - Eye in the Sky sampled in: Immortal Technique - Eyes in the Sky |
Leon Haywood - I Want a Do Something Freaky To You
sampled by: Dr. Dre - Ain't Nothing But A G Thang (ft Snoop) |
Dat bass line..
Lee Dorsey - Get Out My Life Woman Sampled by: Biz Markie - Just A Friend AND Cypress Hill - Hits From the Bong |
Ah this thread reminds me of a radio segment I had called "Dropping Science" and I would basically do the same thing. Play a song then follow it up with the samples that were used in the song.
I feel like that is the third song this past week that I have heard use turn the beat around. |
Sample:
Aretha Franklin - One Step Ahead [1965] Favorite Flips: Mos Def - Ms. Fat Booty [1999] Phil Ade - Used To Be [2010] Audio: Phil Ade "Used To Be" « Okayplayer Okayplayer |
