Em didn't turn me on to the genre like other artists have, but he was definitely the first hip hop artist I listened to - as in actively seeking out his music - before I really knew what hip hop was.

Biz Markie awakened my love for the hip hop genre, though I don't listen to much.

As redundant as it might sound at this moment I'd have to say Eminem. Even though I grew up with a lot of rap music around me.

It had to be Eminem's MMLP album that got me into Hip-Hop. When I first heard Stan, I was in awe. I was born in '96 so for me to be able to understand the story that was being told is crazy to me. The Way I Am was also a favorite. His anger & aggression on that record is off the charts. You could really feel what he was feeling at the time he was making the record. Great artists usually do that.

Beastie Boys and Run DMC used to by the only rap groups I enjoyed. I was a mainstream rock purist at the time. Now I'm an all-music but Top 40 purist.
