East Coast versus West Coast

The big controversy during the 90's. I'll try to make this thread interesting.

If you were more of a more of an east coast fan throw up three of your favs, or likewise do the same for the west coast, and see who wins.

I have to go with west coast, I've always found the beats to be more chillin and fuller in sound, particularly G funk. Here are three of my favs not surprisingly Dr. Dre

Dr Dre - Lil Ghetto Boy (Can't find the version with the intro)

Spice 1 - I'm The ****ing Murderer

Rappin 4 Tay - Players Club :pimp:

Take that New York!!!

Good thread. Over the entire history of hip hop then East but that period/duel specifically then West.

Y'all don't have love for tupac, Dr Dee, suge knight, snoop and skeetz y'all don't love us? Come to.death row.

The south should have had a better rap. Outkast **** all over both coasts.

Goofle 07-04-2014 05:40 PM

East all the way. Night and day.

100% this.

Tupac and Dr Dre with '95s California Love.

Frownland 07-04-2014 06:09 PM

I like the side with the artists that make good music.

California girls
We're undeniable
Fine, fresh, fierce
We got it on lock

Probably agree but there's no album I like from East, from that period, more than Doggystyle or the Chronic.

Does 93 'til Infinity count?

36 Chambers > any West Coast album ever made.

Always thought Pac > BIG but I mostly prefer East over West. Not a big fan of Snoop or Dre.

Na, although if we're counting people outside of the East/West fighting then you'd include Raekwon & GZA's first albums, Big L, Kool G Rap, ATCQ etc, it'd be a knock out blow...

That's just not on bro.

36 Chambers is pretty hit & miss for me these days tbh. Liquid Swords is by far superior.

36 Chambers is without a doubt one of the greatest albums ever...of any genre!

Nachoman13 07-08-2014 11:57 AM

I gotta say east side! It's all about NYC! Although I do agree with people before me that Pac was better than B.I.G. I would stick:

Ice Cream - Raekwon (Only Built 4 Cuban Linx)
Gimme Some More - Busta Rhymes (Extinction Level Event)
Street Struck - Big L (Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous)

These songs always hype me up, although you could swap out Gimme Some More for any track off of The Coming or ELE

La the Darkman is easily one of the most underrated albums of the 90s. I enjoy this CD more than every other solo album from a Wu member besides Tical and Liquid Swords.

And sorry if I derailed the thread a bit. When I hear East vs West I tend to think of it as a whole, not the few rappers the controversy was based around.
