Haven't seen this yet but I have to assume Aesop's at the top right? I don't know what the study is based off but I can't think of anyone I've ever heard that would even come close to him for this. Guessing some others that I would think would be top 5 or at least close, maybe Kool Kieth, Blackalicious, (cuz he has alphabet aerobics lol), Outkast, perhaps... Wu Tang Clan if they count it because they have a bunch of fairly lyrical rappers writing together?

Yeah, I might as well toss up the articles and the graphs but you are pretty close there music_phantom.
The thing about the study is that he put in a few groups but also counted the words of wu's solo albums also. There are quite a few two person groups near the top as well. The Largest Vocabulary in Hip hop Top Five: Aesop Rock Gza(solo albums) Kool Keith Cannibus Cunninglyguinsts At the link he breaks down how he counts unique words and based off of that it's easy to see why E40 is super high. He uses so much slang and makes up loads of words.

Blackalicious has a good vocab but I think Last Emperor is one of the most diverse and lyrical MCs of all time.
Than you got people like Immortal Technique, Greydon Square, Illogic, and Sage Francis.. I would love to see this study and how many amazing lyricists they leave out. |
