Outkast is what helped me get into Slick Rick actually with this song.

Not really. I just wasn't interested in Slick before and saw him more as a joke/hype man type rapper like Flavor Flav and I just didn't care.
I am probably older than yourself.

I'm 38, you?
Remember hanging out, as a 6 year old, with 'crackheads' on the elementary school playground afterhours. joke/hype .... has it's own importance. That's how breakdance started out. On that same playground. |

I'm 8 years younger than you.
Yeah, I know the importance of hype men. That was back when DJs had a stronger presence. The hypeman was there to back up the MC at the party that usually just freestyled to whatever the DJ was playing while he was scratching.

How can he possibly be a 'hype man' ...with no 'hype man' of his own?
On these albums? (You know Jay Z was in 'Ain't No Half Steppin'?) Little tid bit of fact. Not as a hype man...just, in the video. I know what a ****ing Hype man was, flavor flav. etc. One of the first two albums I ever bought in my life. 'Takes a Nation of Millions'. I was 8-9. First was Run DMC, Raisin Hell, I was like 8. Embarrassed to say the word to the record store clerk. |

I know he wasn't technically one but the whole jokey vibe just reminded me of one.

I love 'jokey'...rap. And, seriously, you call Slick Rick a (overall) 'jokey rapper.'
C'mon. Do I need to repost? Okay I will, but, with a remix: This ain't funny so don't ya dare laugh... What makes you think this is a joke? Because he's not into killing women? A positive message? But, it's the production work that works for me. Listen 10+ times and still hear something new... |
